Conclusion
Ulm earns their first victory in nearly two months with an improved performance in the second half. The Sparrows took a 2-0 lead with a double strike of dream goals. Röser scores acrobatically, Batista Meier finds the net with power. Although Darmstadt managed to pull one back through Riedel, the defence led by Reichert and keeper Thiede held firm. Ulm climbs temporarily to the relegation play-off spot.

Final substitutions
The last two changes. Batista Meier, Ulm's best player, comes off and is celebrated. Krattenmacher and Kahvić are the new additions.
85'
Ulm counter through Telalović
Nice move by the home side. Batista Meier is involved again, his pass is used by Telalović, but the low shot from about ten metres goes just wide of the right post.
83'
Ulm relieved!
A clever free-kick routine fails. Instead of crossing, Batista Meier tries to play Keller through... but it's too long, and Keller can't reach it. Nevertheless, the home side are still managing to push on, and Darmstadt can't establish themselves in the attacking third.
81'
Fresh personnel in defence
Third substitution for the home side, Rösch replaces Strompf.
78'
Nürnberger!
Dangerous corner from the visitors. Nürnberger gets the second ball but blasts it well over from the left edge of the penalty area.
77'
Substitute earns suspension
Shortly after being substituted on, Luka Hyryläinen receives his fifth yellow card of the current season, meaning he will be suspended for Ulm's match at Schalke next week.

Fresh personnel on both sides
Four substitutions at once. Telalović replaces the opener Röser, while for Darmstadt, Maglica and Förster provide full offensive power.
70'
Corredor!
After the sluggish first half, it's now raining chances. Corredor pounces on a misplaced pass and takes a shot, but Thiede raises his arms high and skilfully prevents the equaliser.
68'
Riedel pulls one back
The visitors are back in the game. Buenos delivers the corner from the left to the near post, where Riedel heads the ball perfectly into the bottom left corner.

Ulm keep pushing
Ulm continue to dominate the second half. Another corner (their fourth) looks dangerous, but the header from the unmarked Strompf, which bounces in front of goal, gets stuck in the scramble in front of the net.
63'
Yellow card for Papela
First booking of the match. Just 60 seconds after his last warning, Papela is clearly late in a challenge on Dresse and 'earns' himself a yellow card.
62'
Kohfeldt reacts
Double substitution for the visitors, Lakenmacher and returning player Nürnberger are now on the pitch.
61'
Darmstadt lose steam
Darmstadt are making an effort, but they lack punch. Once again, a free kick doesn't quite connect, and Lopez's attempt at a cross fails to reach its target.
58'
Bullseye for Batista Meier!
The winter signing has already scored his third goal for the Sparrows, and he has been involved in five of Ulm's last nine goals. The winter acquisition seems to be the perfect addition to the squad.
57'
Goooal! Ulm double down!
What a dream goal from Batista Meier. Ulm win the ball through Gaal in the centre circle. They quickly move forward, the goalscorer has plenty of space about 25 metres from the goal and places the shot - half curl, half knuckleball - perfectly into the top right corner.
56'
Reichert!
Big chance for 2-0! After an Ulm corner, Darmstadt fail to clear the ball, Reichert's shot from seven metres grazes the left corner.
53'
Lopez sends the ball well over
Nothing doing. The full-back attempts to curl the ball into the right corner, but it's far too high and sails well over the crossbar.
52'
Promising Set-Piece
Darmstadt get the chance to respond immediately, with the ball placed for a free-kick about 22 metres from goal in a central position.
51'
Goooal! Ulm take the lead
Suddenly the Sparrows score, and it's an acrobatic goal from Röser! Allgeier delivers a perfect cross into the penalty area, Röser breaks free between four Darmstadt players and sends the ball into the net with an outstretched right foot high in the air. A fine strike!
49'
Lidberg tries his luck
Darmstadt's star man attempts a low shot from the right-hand side, but Thiede gathers it comfortably.
48'
Reichert immediately called into action again
Midfield duels characterise the start of the second half. Then the visitors attack once more, but defender Reichert expertly dispossesses Marseiler.

Defender in pain
Gaal is sitting on the ground, holding his left ankle.

Woodwork! What a scene
Huge chance for the visitors. Thiede parries a shot from Corredor, Liedberg is quickest to react but fails to put the ball in the net from six metres out, as the keeper, lying on the ground, somehow manages to get a slight touch, deflecting the ball onto the left post.

Too high
Corredor's curling shot from 18 metres flies about two metres over the top right corner.
35'
Darmstadt lacking pace and precision
The visitors are currently lacking a bit of purposefulness; although they are getting themselves into Ulm's penalty area often, they frequently lose possession when it matters
32'
Reichert the rock in defence
Ulm's defensive leader has been impressing with a commanding performance so far. Both his tackle success rate and pass completion rate are at 100 percent.
29'
Pace picks up
Darmstadt's counter-pressing is working, after winning the ball in Ulm's half it goes over to the right, but Marseiler's pass is a bit too hard for Corredor. Goal kick.
26'
Allgeier reacts a fraction too late
The best chance of the match. Keller delivers the ball from the left, low into the centre. Schuhen gets a touch, but the rebound falls to Allgeier's feet. Riedel pokes the ball away for a corner at the last second.
24'
Marseiler finds Lidberg
Marseiler pushes forward on the right, the through ball to Lidberg is good, but the striker - marked by two Ulm players - can't get a decisive shot off.
22'
Hosts now more purposeful
Another chance for Ulm. Röser's header goes wide of the goal.
19'
Brandt blocked
First clear attempt from the home side. Brandt takes aim from about 18 metres out in a central position, but Vukotić blocks it with his shoulder - an important intervention from the Darmstadt defensive stalwart who has been strong so far.
18'
Counter-attack prevented
Darmstadt counter-attack again, but are stopped at the halfway line by Gaal.

Darmstadt growing stronger
Another lovely attack from the Lilies, this time down the right flank. Lidberg misses the cross by mere centimetres just a few metres in front of goal.
13'
Hosts still harmless
Meanwhile, Ulm are still having trouble getting into the final third.
10'
Quick counter-attack
Vukotić plays a dream low pass across the pitch, right into Corredor's path. He plays it to the onrushing Lidberg, but the ball falls slightly behind the Darmstadt top scorer, and Reichert clears.
8'
Tactical differences
The playing styles of both teams are clearly recognisable. The visitors want to quickly bypass the midfield repeatedly, while in the same area, the home side are trying to seize control of the game with intense tackling.
6'
Counter-attack fizzles out
Following the first corner of the match (for Darmstadt), Ulm counter-attacks through Brandt. However, the midfielder pushes the ball too far ahead on the right, and it goes out of play.
3'
Ulm make their presence felt
Down the other end, Röser gets past Bueno, but pushes the ball too far ahead on his way into the penalty area and Vukotić clears it.
2'
Lilies attack down the left
First attacking move comes from the visitors. Lidberg shifts to the left and puts Bueno in a crossing position. The Spaniard has plenty of space, but the delivery flies through the penalty area without finding a target.

Two returnees
The visiting team's coach can be pleased about the return of two more options to the squad today. Förster (injured) and Nürnberger (suspended) were unavailable for the last five matches, but are now back on the bench for the first time.
Only one change for the Lilies
Lilies coach Kohfeldt makes only one change to the lineup. Hornby is absent due to a yellow-red card suspension, with Boëtius taking his place in the starting eleven. Otherwise, the manager trusts the same personnel from the 1-2 defeat in Cologne.
New quartet for the Sparrows
Manager Lechleiter makes four changes compared to the last match in the Bundesliga 2 (0-0 in Karlsruhe). Thiede, Strompf, Batista Meier and Higl are new to the lineup, while first-choice keeper Ortag and Kolbe are missing from the squad due to injuries, and Krattenmacher and Telalovic are initially on the bench.
This is how Darmstadt lines up
Schuhen - López, Riedel, Vukotić, Guille Bueno - Müller, Papela - Boëtius, Marseiler, Corredor - Lidberg
This is how Ulm lines up
Thiede - Gaal, Reichert (c), Strompf - Allgeier, Max Brandt, Dressel, Keller - Batista Meier - Röser, Higl

TOGETHER! Stop Hate. Be a Team.
Robert Lechleiter on facing Darmstadt
"Knowing full well that we only have eight matches left, we will approach it courageously. We want to steal points away from home, but the key to our big goal will lie here, at home in Donaustadion. We have five home matches left here and it's no secret that we need wins to achieve our objective."
What Florian Kohfeldt says
"Ulm have hardly suffered any heavy defeats. Their losses were always close, and they've also drawn many matches. For them, it's a game where a win is a must. Accordingly, it's an important match for both teams. We can take a big step towards securing our plans for the 2. Bundesliga. We absolutely want to win this game. For that, we need a mixture of vigilance and self-confidence."
The last victory didn't count
Further encounters took place in the Regionalliga, most recently in 2010/11 - Ulm's 3-0 home victory at that time was annulled due to insolvency proceedings. Therefore, the last 'valid' Ulm victories against Darmstadt were in the 2008/09 Regionalliga season under manager Markus Gisdol (1-0 at home, 4-0 away).
It's been a while...
The Sparrows last won against Darmstadt in July 1986 in the Bundesliga 2 (2-0 at home). In their last four home matches against the Lilies, they've won once and picked up three draws. Horst Neumann secured the only away win for Darmstadt in the Bundesliga 2 at the Donaustadion (scoring a brace in the 2-1 victory in September 1980).
History favours Darmstadt
In the Bundesliga 2, the Lilies have lost only two out of 13 matches against Ulm (six wins, five draws) and have remained unbeaten in their last four second-tier encounters (two wins, two draws).
A goalscorer is missing
Ulm and Darmstadt are playing together in the Bundesliga 2 for the first time in 37 years. The first match ended 1-1, with the now suspended Fraser Hornby (16th minute) and Aaron Keller (18th) scoring early.
