Schmid scorcher!
Great team goal. Stage turns his man in midfield, charges towards goal and slips in Weiser down the right-hand side. The midfielder squares across the box to Grüll, who misses the ball entirely. It runs right through to Schmid, who collects on the left-hand side of the box and rifles it into the far corner to surely put the game to bed.

Weiser blazes over!
Njinmah breaks down the left flank, beats a man and floats a tidy ball to the back post. Weiser brings it down and unleashes a powerful drive at goal, but it sails over. Should have hit the target.
79'
Stage down injured
The midfielder goes down holding his knee after diving into a tackle. The game enters a brief hiatus while the medical staff check him over. He leaves the field but is back on his feet and wants to come back on shortly afterwards. A good sign.

Burke wide
Schmid scurries down the left flank and looks to cut one across the box. The ball is cleared but Bremen retake. It's fed to Burke, lurking just on the edge of the box, but his shot spoons wide of the right post.

Ekitiké just over!
The Frenchman takes a free kick, 20 metres out, slightly to the right of centre. He hits it over the wall with venom but can't quite keep it down. It sails over the top of the bar.
58'
Great defending from Theate
Bremen storm forward and the ball is fed to Burke, who looks to round Theate inside the box and let fly with his right foot. But the defender reads it expertly and lunges in to block at the last moment. The ball is cleared to safety. Superb defending.
54'
Poor again
Bremen attack down the right and cross towards the front post, where Burke is lurking, but it's not accurate and Frankfurt are able to counter.
52'
Final pass lacking
Both sides are venturing forwards only to be let down by their final ball and decision making. Frustrating for the fans.
47'
Duksch should score!
After a fatal backpass from Collins, the Werder striker is through on goal, with only Santos to beat. The latter makes himself big, with Ducksch opting for a lob. But it's not accurate and goes wide. Scoring would have been easier.
46'
Peeeeep!
Following a slight delay to the second half, owing to pyrotechnics in the stands, we are underway again at the Westerstadion.

Scrappy affair
There's been little rhythm to this game, with both sides giving it away sloppily whenever they advance into midfield.

Burke nods Bremen ahead!
Pieper swings in a corner from the left and it sails over the crowded area before dropping at the back post, where an onrushing Burke simply nods his side in front. Too easy.

Stage hits the bar!
Agu finds space to cross from the left but his ball is cleared. It reaches Stage, lurking on the edge of the Frankfurt box. The midfielder hits one into the ground but it's deflected up and over Santos and onto the crossbar. So close!

Ekitiké close!
Frankfurt work the ball down the left flank and into the path of Ekitiké, who carries it into the box and shoots across goal with his left foot. He has Zetterer beaten but the effort drifts agonisingly wide of the far post.
17'
Larsson lively
The attacking midfielder breaks down the right wing and looks to cross into Ekitiké but it's blocked behind for a corner. That gets cleared with ease.
13'
Dangerous corner
Götze sends an in-swinger towards Bremen's back post. Three or four players leap to meet it, but nobody can quite reach it. It lands just beyond the post and skids out for a goal kick.
10'
Stage just over
The midfielder rises highest to meet a corner in a packed penalty box, but he can't keep his header down.
8'
Stuck in the middle
Neither side has really managed to penetrate the other just yet. The game is very much centred around the middle third of the field.
6'
Frankfurt take charge
After a breathless opening few minutes, the Eagles settle into the game and begin to knock the ball around comfortably.
3'
Wild opening
A heavy-metal start sees Frankfurt 'keeper Santos come charging off his line to claim a free kick, only to be sent crashing to the turf by an attacker. Play goes on.

Toppmöller on returning Eagles
“Kevin Trapp has been able to do some training but still has minor problems with the shin. It only makes sense for him to play if he’s 100% fit, so Kaua Santos will be in goal at Bremen. “Uzun is ill. We hope that Wahi can make the squad for the UEL first leg. With Knauff it’s looking very good, although not for Saturday."

Can Bremen stop Frankfurt in their tracks?
After a difficult run, two wins in Bremen's past three games mean they are now quite out of the European conversation just yet. However, they will need to produce a strong display against Frankfurt, who are third in the table and in possession of a six-point buffer in the race for a top-four spot.
