Full-time: Pauli 0-1 Freiburg

It's all over at the Millerntor where Freiburg have claimed victory thanks to their old boy Treu's late own-goal. It means Grifo's fluffed penalty on the stoke of half-time doesn't prove to be costly and Freiburg move fifth with that win. Meanwhile, Pauli remain 14th and seven points clear of the bottom three.

Is that the winner?

Freiburg finally break the deadlock in the dying embers of this match thanks to ex-Freiburg man Treu's own-goal. It's really unfortunate for the Pauli man as he looks to cut off the cross from the left but can only divert into his own net.

Wide from Irvine

The Pauli skipper arrives late to meet a corner but his header drifts wide of the far post.

Another roll of the dice

It's Pauli with a double change now as Banks and Ritzka are introduced. Still neither side look like claiming a winner.

Double change Freiburg

Dinkçi and Beste are on for Freiburg as the visitors search for a winner. The latter replaces Grifo who has had a day to forget after his earlier penalty miss.

Over from Röhl

A good effort from Röhl as he lets fly on his left foot but it's over.

Pauli change

A first sub of the game sees English forward Afolayan replace Saad.

Vasilj denies Grifo again

A great free-kick this time from Grifo has Vasilj racing across his line to parry clear. That was destined for the top-corner but the Pauli 'keeper did well to get across.

Half-time: Pauli 0-0 Freiburg

It's all square at the break but Freiburg should be ahead. They were given the perfect opportunity to take the lead but Grifo chipped his penalty straight down the throat of Vasilj. Pauli have had the most of the ball but Freiburg have had the best chances.

Grifo misses!

Freiburg have now missed all four of their Bundesliga penalties this season and this is awful. Grifo goes for a panenka but Vasilj stays upright and completes an easy catch. They look good when they work and terrible when they don't.

Over the bar

Grifo did fancy his chances but he sends the ball high and wide of the Pauli goal. Was possibly a bit too close to goal.

Getting scrappy

Neither side is giving an inch at the minute, with this game starting to get a bit niggly in midfield.

Quietened down

The pace has slowed somewhat since that Dōan chance, with the visitors starting to get on the ball far more. It may be quiet on the pitch but it's absolutely rocking in the stands.
13'

Big chance

Out of nowhere Freiburg are nearly in front. Dōan races through and his first touch is delightful but Vasilj stands tall and denies the Japan international. Pauli were caught napping there.

Pauli dominant

It's been all Pauli so far and they are camped on the edge of the Freiburg box. The visitors just can't get a footing in this game.

Bright start from the hosts

Pauli have looked lively early on, with Weißhaupt particularly keen to drive at the Freiburg defence. Promising stuff.

Plenty to play for

Pauli go into Matchday 22 with a seven-point buffer to the bottom three and safety well within sight. As for Freiburg, they occupy sixth-place's final European spot and a win today would take them to within just one point of fourth-placed RB Leipzig.

Julian Schuster's thoughts on St. Pauli

“We are wary of St. Pauli, they have been able to stabilise their team during this season. They have the second-best defence in the league, something we felt the brunt of during the reverse fixture. They are more solid now, have settled on a standard formation and that’s resulted in them playing better and picking up more points. We know that we once again won’t be given much space. It’s important that we remain patient this time."

Alexander Blessin's thoughts on Freiburg

"They are playing really well under Julian Schuster at a consistently good level. I enjoy watching the games - compactness paired with individual quality – we have a good opponent coming up who wants to make up for something. During the first fixture they changed things up and tried to come from the wings. We had problems there time and again - stopping the crosses will be an issue. We have to be extremely careful with their set pieces and be stable.”

Watch: Freiburg 0-3 Pauli - previous meeting

Elias Saad's brace helped the Kiezkicker record their first Bundesliga win since their relegation in 2011, back in September. It was the biggest away victory in their Bundesliga history.

Watch: Leipzig 2-0 Pauli - highlights

St. Pauli's three-game unbeaten run was ended in Leipzig. Only one of the five teams below them at the start of Matchday 21 won, though, so the promoted club still have the comfort of a seven-point buffer on the relegation zone.
