We're going to penalties!
Neither side managed to fashion any clear cut chances in the second half of extra time and thus the outcome of this one will be decided via a penalty shootout.

More in that
Jahn hesitates a little too long to pull the trigger for the hosts, allowing Markhiev to come across just in time and prevent the shot.

Free-kick from a promising position
From the right side, Fallmann's cross comes in well too wide and goes out for a goal-kick.

Extra-time half-time: Viktoria Köln 1-1 Nuremberg
Just before the whistle, there is a corner kick for the Club, but Mandić heads the ball over the bar. 15 minutes now stand between these sides and either a penalty shootout, or progression through to the next round.

Risky on both sides
Sponsel takes a big risk in his own penalty area against Moustfa, but the scorer of the equaliser plays the ball and defuses Nuremberg's advance. Shortly after, Markhiev catches Kloss with a late challenge and receives the next yellow card.
96'
Yellow card again
Jahn steps on Fernandez's foot and is consequently shown a yellow card.
95'
Sponsel alert to the danger
The defender crucially dispossesses Grimaldi, preventing him from getting a shot off.

Reichert staying solid
Again, the Nuremberg keeper is well-positioned for a stop - this time against Otto. Had the effort posed more danger, it wouldn't have mattered anyway as the striker had started his run from an offside position.
42'
Comfortable save
Tonye lays it off for Duman, and the former Nuremberg man immediately has a shot. However, his effort is far too central and lands straight into the arms of Reichert.
39'
Shoulder issue
Zoma's left shoulder is being iced, and, as a precaution, Moustfa is sent out to warm up on the touchline.
37'
Zoma requires treatment
The attacking midfielder stays down on the pitch after a challenge with Tonye.
30'
Scrubbed off
Scobel scores what appears to be the opening goal for the away side, however, he is adjudged to have committed a foul in the build-up, and as such, the goal is rightly disallowed.
27'
Nuremberg in possession
The Franconians have control of the game, while Viktoria are lying in wait for counter-attacks. As such, this remains a hard-fought match, with Nuremberg in particular struggling to break down the hosts and make a meaningful impact so far.
26'
Castelle with a header
Once again, a Duman corner causes danger. Castelle lurks at the far post and nods the ball towards the Nuremberg goal with a header, but Reichert is alert and makes a good save to deny him.
19'
First booking
Fernandez is shown a yellow card for a challenge on Tonye.
13'
Sponsel holds firm
Zoma looks to get past his defender on the left flank, but Sponsel comes out on top in the duel and even wins a free-kick in the end to win possession of the ball back for Viktoria.
8'
Just off target
Otto lurks at the near post after a Duman corner and diverts the ball towards goal with his heel, but the ball whistles just wide of the right post.
7'
Quiet start
Neither side has fashioned a dangerous attack yet and are feeling each other out in this early phase of the match.
1'
And we're off!
The ball is rolling here in Cologne. Nuremberg immediately take control of possession.

Nuremberg aiming for a perfect start
Miroslav Klose's side have already secured two wins in the new season. The last time they started a campaign with three consecutive competitive wins was in the 2017/18 season. Back then, their first opponents in the DFB Cup were Duisburg, who Nuremberg beat 2-1.

Marian Wilhelm on facing Nuremberg
"The foundation has to be energy and consistency. We did that very well in many phases of the game last week against Stuttgart II. Nuremberg will perhaps also pose us with one or two challenges that we cannot prepare for quite so easily. As a team, we need to be more disciplined and also show the necessary courage."
