88'

Time running out

The away side continue to control the match, while Eintracht are running out of ideas. There is still a little time left, but chances have become few and far between on both sides.
82'

Changes for both teams

Seiwald has put in a shift for Leipzig in midfield, and is replaced by Vermeeren. For the hosts, Kinscher - a living legend at the Moselstadion - replaces Sausen.
78'

Almost a consolation

Blum lets fly from 25 metres. With the ball heading for the top corner, Vandevoordt punches it away and just about clears the thunderous long-range effort to the side.

There's the fourth!

Harder gets in on the act, created by debutant Reitz. The Dane makes a superb run and simply pokes the ball with the outside of his left foot under the onrushing Wechsel.

If that one goes in...

...then the Moselstadion would go absolutely wild. The hosts try their luck with a wonder strike from 45 metres, but the ball goes well wide.
69'

What a goal that would have been!

First, Harder narrowly misses a cross with a header, then Gruda tries his luck acrobatically and attempts an overhead kick. However, the ball flies high over the goal.
68'

Leipzig remain composed

The visitors are not allowing anything at all and are controlling the match at will. The home side, however, are working tirelessly and are looking for their chance to pull one back.
64'

Four substitutions and a debut!

The visitors bring on four new players at once with Harder, Finkgräfe, Henrichs and Reitz. The latter makes his debut for Leipzig.
59'

First corner...

...for the home side. To the delight of the home crowd, Sausen wins the corner. However, it doesn't pose a threat to the visitors.
57'

Double whammy

Nusa first catches his foot in the turf and is then struck in the face by his opponent's boot while lying on the ground. However, the Norwegian is tough and gets back on his feet.
56'

Keep ball

Leipzig continue to dominate possession but rather than press for a fourth, they're happy slow the tempo right down and work an opening that way.

Committed

Sausen drives past Seiwald at pace and is then brought down unceremoniously by the Leipzig player with a sliding tackle. A clear tactical foul and therefore a yellow card for Seiwald - Leipzig's first of the game.
50'

Brave start

The home side show no signs whatsoever of wanting to give up on the match just yet. With Yavuz coming on for the booked Kritzer, Trier are looking to pull one back.

We're back under way

Trier get the ball rolling for the second half. Can they find a way back into this game?
Kick-off!

Half-time: Trier 0-3 Leipzig

Gruda sent Leipzig on their way after three minutes before Orbán doubled the Bundesliga side's lead. After that, for the most part, Trier remained in an excellent defensive shape and created chances of their own, but Baku's deflected goal from distance puts the Saxony club into a comfortable lead at the break.

Substitution

It's three!

Baku takes aim from distance, and his shot takes a wicked deflection off Trier defender Pelzer, who leaves Wechsel rooted to the spot.

45'

Golden opportunity!

Gaida clips in a wonderful ball from the left into the path of Sausen, who strikes the ball on the volley but the Trier forward guides his effort over the onrushing Vandevoordt and wide.
43'

Corner for the visitors

The Bundesliga side have picked up the pace again and win another corner on the left. However, it comes to nothing.
40'

Off the post!

Baku and Bakayoko combine brilliantly inside the Trier penalty area, but the former is only able to find the outside of the post and prodding the ball towards goal.

The opener!

Gruda's goal put Leipzig on track early at the Moselstadion after three minutes.
36'

Ambitious

Trier charge forward in numbers, but Rahn's effort from distance is wasteful, and comfortably saved by Vandevoordt, who's had a quiet evening so far.
35'

Baku intervenes

An attack by the home side through Gaida, who cuts inside from the left, is fairly dispossessed by Baku in the penalty area. The hosts are growing stronger.
31'

Wechsel saves it!

The resulting free-kick from Raum is struck with venom, but Wechsel is well positioned and pulls off a great save.
29'

First caution

Kritzer stops Gruda centimetres before the penalty area line with a foul, earning the Trier player the game's first booking.
25'

Finding a rhythm

Trier are settling down into the game more now and are showing resilience, nullifying Leipzig who despite controlling possession, haven't been able to contribute anything noteworthy in the last five minutes. That's a testament to the Eintracht defence, who are keeping shape after a turbulent opening period.
20'

Leipzig continue to push

Bakayoko wins possession and plays the ball to Gruda who, with a low centre of gravity, progresses the ball towards goal but he's stopped in his tracks by Spang. The Saxony club want that third goal!
15'

Already the 10th shot on goal!

Leipzig continue to dominate proceedings here. This time it is Gruda again, who is allowed to let fly from distance, but his ball whistles over the crossbar.
12'

Just over the bar!

Bakayoko has almost nets Leipzig's third, but his curled shot lacks precision and Wechsel in the Trier goal is able to tip the ball over the crossbar. The resulting corner comes to nothing.
10'

First sight of goal

The Regionalliga side venture forward and play the ball in from the right into the channel towards the penalty area. However, Vandevoordt is alert and collects the ball calmly inside his own box.

It's two!

Gruda turns provider for Orbán, who fires into the roof of the net from close range after Wechsel's failed clearance falls into the path of the Leipzig defender.

Electric atmosphere at the Moselstadion!

The early deficit does nothing to dampen the atmosphere in Trier. The visitors come forward down the left flank again. This time, however, Raum is blocked in time. Corner for the Bundesliga side, which amounts to nothing.

Early lead!

Leipzig score with the first attack of the game. Controlling possession, they eventually work an opening down the left through Banzuzi, who latches onto Nusa's through ball. He plays a low pass across goal which is tapped in by Gruda.

More on that Trier team

For the hosts, Herber, Tekceri, Blum and Marceta all drop to the bench, but Singer (l.) retains his place having scored two goals in their 2-1 victory over Mannheim at the weekend.

More on that Leipzig team

Demichelis has named a strong side for his first competitive match as Leipzig boss. The Argentine has made one change to the team that lost 3-1 in their final pre-season friendly, against Bayern Munich. Bakayoko comes in for Maksimović, which sees Gruda drop into a deeper role.

Trier's DFB Cup history

Fourth division Trier are regular DFB Cup participants but have failed to go beyond the first round in four of the last five seasons. They have shown they're capable of going beyond the second round in the past though, reaching the quarter finals in both 2004/05 and 2009/10, and even the semi-finals in 1997/98.

RB Leipzig's DFB Cup history

Die Roten Bullen won consecutive DFB Cups in 2021/22 and 2022/23 and have been to the quarter-finals (2025/26) and semi-finals (2024/25) since, making them formidable cup opponents for anyone they meet. They'll hope to go the distance once more this season, starting with a win in Trier.
