Werder Bremen donate matchday food to local soup kitchen 'Bremer Suppenengel'
Following the late-notice postponing of their Matchday 16 home encounter with Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen - together with their caterer Supreme Sports Hospitality - found a solution for the matchday food which had already been prepared at the Weserstadion.
Given that the decision to postpone Werder's Saturday clash with Hoffenheim was made just one day prior, a lot of food had already been prepared ahead of time for the catering at the Weserstadion, as is standard matchday practice.
But with no game to be played, donating the food to the Bremer Suppenengel (translation: Bremen soup angels) soup kitchen proved to be the obvious and meaningful solution. Now, the surplus food can still be used over the weekend and will help people in need living in Bremen; something which is especially important in the sub-zero temperatures.
Watch: Bundesliga action is back!

A wide variety of freshly prepared starters, main courses, and desserts were all donated - including both vegetarian and vegan options - enabling a broad choice of menu options to be passed on to the Suppenengel.
The donation is part of an ongoing collaboration between Werder, their caterers, and the Suppenengel, which includes other joint initiatives, such as the New Year’s reception at the Weserstadion.
The reception is set to take place for the 11th consecutive year again in February, where around 100 people experiencing homelessness and volunteer helpers from the Suppenengel team come together to enjoy a three-course meal at Werder's home.
The Green-Whites are back in Bundesliga action midweek when they face Borussia Dortmund on the road on Matchday 17.
