Deniz Undav rescues point for VfB Stuttgart in Wolfsburg
Deniz Undav's 97th-minute equaliser rescued 10-man VfB Stuttgart a point in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg.
Wind blows Stuttgart off course
The match burst into life in the 20th minute when Jonas Wind broke the deadlock for Wolfsburg. The Danish striker latched onto a precise cut-back from Mohamed Amoura following a swift counter-attack. Stuttgart's dominance in possession finally paid dividends in the 32nd minute, though. Jamie Leweling was brought down in the box by Sebastiaan Bornauw, prompting referee Sven Jablonski to point to the spot. Enzo Millot stepped up to take the penalty, but his initial effort was brilliantly saved by Kamil Grabara. However, the French midfielder showed great composure to follow up and slot home the rebound.
The second half began with Stuttgart continuing to dominate possession, but the complexion of the match changed dramatically in the 63rd minute. Atakan Karazor, who had been booked in the first half, received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Maximilian Arnold. The numerical advantage paid off for Wolfsburg in the 68th minute when Mohamed Amoura found the back of the net. The goal seemed to have sealed the victory for the hosts, who had been clinical with their chances throughout the match, but Stuttgart produced a moment of magic deep into stoppage time. In the 97th minute, Deniz Undav, who had come on as a substitute, popped up at the far post to meet a cross from Maximilian Mittelstädt.
