Additional terms and conditions of participation for the DFL Challenges as part of the "AWS World Sports Innovation Cup 2026"
From 30 March 2026 to 1 May 2026, DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH, Guiollett-straße 44-46, D-60325 Frankfurt/Main, Germany ("DFL" or "we") will be holding the "AWS World Sports Innovation Cup 2026" in conjunction with Amazon Web Ser-vices, 38, Avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg ("AWS") and Adidas AG, World of Sports, Adi-Dassler-Straße 1, D-91074 Herzogenaurach, Germany.
As part of the AWS World Sports Innovation Cup 2026, the DFL, together with the aforementioned cooperation partners, is offering the following challenges ("DFL Challenges"):
· Bundesliga 3D Data Exploration: The challenge invites participants to explore a dataset of around 705 million data points (corresponding to five Bundesliga matches) and develop new approaches for using this extensive movement data. As part of this task, participants have the opportunity to (1) develop innovative key performance indicators (KPIs) that go beyond the capabilities of conventional data analysis, (2) create new solutions for fan interaction or for Bundesliga channels, partners or clubs that improve the fan experience and/or coaching decisions, (3) identify best practices from other sports or industries that already use 3D data and adapt them for the Bundesliga.
· Bundesliga Wrapped Exploration: The aim of this challenge is to develop an initial concept for "Bundesliga Wrapped" – in particular, a personalised summary for the Bundesliga app that shows each user their own personal Bundesliga season. Using existing data, individual highlights, statistics and special moments for each fan should be identified and presented in an attractive way. The solution should not only reflect the most important experiences of the users, but also include suggestions for integration into the Bundesliga app, the frequency of playback and marketing opportunities.
· DFL x Adidas Challenge – Beyond the 90 minutes: The aim of this challenge is to develop a concept and prototype for a second-screen experience that –ideally within the adidas and Bundesliga ecosystem– enriches the match day for fans. Using DFL match data and simulated Adidas consumer data, solutions should be developed that make football more accessible and inclusive, promote social interaction and strengthen fan loyalty before, during and after the game. The focus is on creative ideas that show how football can be made even more inviting and entertaining for a broad fan base.
· Bundesliga Kickoff Quiz Lab via AWS PartyRock: The aim of this challenge is to use AWS PartyRock to develop an AI-powered feature for the Bundesliga app that automatically generates football quizzes and personalised learning paths. This will enable editors and content teams to efficiently create interactive and educational content that playfully deepens fans' knowledge of football, the Bundesliga and its players. The solution should offer quizzes on various topics and levels of difficulty and suggest individual learning paths based on users' interests and knowledge. Gamification elements such as points, badges or rankings should promote motivation and regular use. In addition, innovative additional features such as daily quiz questions, interactive match predictions or challenges are expressly desired. The goal is a creative, interactive and scalable prototype that can be seamlessly integrated into the Bundesliga ecosystem.
In addition to the AWS Events Terms and Conditions, the AWS Code of Conduct and the AWS Privacy Notice – and, in the case of AWS PartyRock Challenges, the PartyRock Terms of Service (including the PartyRock Community Guidelines, PartyRock Privacy Page, AWS Site Terms, AWS Privacy Notice, AWS Responsible AI Policy, AWS Acceptable Use Policy and AWS Trademark Guidelines) in their currently valid versions – the following additional terms and conditions of participation apply to participation in the DFL Challenges, which the participants (hereinafter uniformly referred to as: "participants") acknowledge as binding upon themselves by confirming:
1. Services and tools for processing the DFL Challenges: Participants shall only use the services and tools approved by the DFL and/or AWS for the implementation of the DFL Challenges. The use of additional services and tools is only permitted with the explicit prior approval of the DFL.
2. Provision and use of DFL content: The following DFL content will be made available to participants for participation in the various DFL Challenges:
· Photographs of FC Bayern Munich players taken during Media Days for the 2024/2025 season;
· Statistics for the 2024/2025 season relating to FC Bayern Munich and its players;
· Video content relating to the 2024/2025 season, also specifically relating to FC Bayern Munich, including various content formats (e.g. SMCS, highlights, weekly shows, goal clips) as well as selected matches and special match scenes featuring selected Bayern players;
· Information on the 2024/2025 season concerning all Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga clubs, their players and match schedules.
This DFL content may only be used by the participant for the purpose of participating in the respective DFL Challenge. Any use beyond this (in particular, disclosure to third parties) is prohibited. In particular, participants must ensure that the providers of the services and tools they use in the context of the respective DFL Challenge use the DFL content only for the provision of services and not for other (own) purposes (e.g. to optimise their services or tools, to further train their AI models). If you have any questions, please contact DFL and/or AWS.
Participants must delete the DFL content and any copies thereof after completion of the respective DFL Challenge. Upon request, the deletion of DFL content must be confirmed by email.
3. Own contribution to the DFL Challenges: The participant confirms that all documents and work results submitted by them as part of the DFL Challenges (in particular, but not limited to, the source code, a description of the application of the source code and technical documentation, any UX/UI designs) ("materials") were created and provided by them. The participant further guarantees that no rights (copyright, trademark or other rights) of third parties are infringed by these materials. The participant indemnifies the DFL against all claims in this regard.
4. Rights of use for the materials: The finalists of the DFL Challenges grant the DFL a non-exclusive right, unlimited in terms of content, time and space, to use the materials and to allow them to be used by companies affiliated with the DFL in accordance with Sections 15 et seq. of the German Stock Corporation Act („Aktiengesetz (AktG)“) as well as by third parties and in cooperation with third parties, with the rights being transferable without requiring consent. This includes, in particular, the right to reproduce, edit and redesign materials, combine them with other programmes, convert them into other programming languages and for other operating systems.
5. Media coverage: In addition to AWS, the DFL plans to provide its own media coverage of the AWS World Sports Innovation Cup 2026 for its reporting and to inform the public about the AWS World Sports Innovation Cup 2026, as well as to document, evaluate and archive its content and results. In connection with this, the DFL or third parties designated by it will create photo, video and/or audio recordings and/or collect written statements (e.g. quotes) (hereinafter collectively referred to as "media content“) that can identify the participants as AWS World Sports Innovation Cup 2026 participants. The media content may be processed, used and publicly reproduced in particular in our print and online media (e.g. on our official websites, official social media channels and in our official newsletters) as well as – depending on further reporting interest – by AWS and Adidas AG as further cooperation partners of the AWS World Sports Innovation Cup 2026, the press and broadcast media, as well as our other cooperation and media partners. Under certain circumstances, the participant may be named by the publisher in the context of dissemination.
The legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in reporting in accordance with Art. 6 (1) sentence 1 f) of the European General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"). The controller responsible for this data processing is the DFL. Further provisions on data protection, including the rights of participants under the GDPR and the contact details of our data protection officer, can be found in our privacy policy: https://www.dfl.de/de/datenschutz/.
6. Liability and indemnification: The DFL shall only be liable – regardless of the legal basis – for damages caused by intent or gross negligence on the part of the DFL, its legal representatives or vicarious agents. In cases of simple negligence, the DFL shall only be liable for damages resulting from injury to life, limb or health, as well as for damages resulting from the breach of a material contractual obligation (cardinal obligation); in this case, however, liability shall be limited to typically foreseeable damages. Any further liability on the part of the DFL is excluded.
Participants shall indemnify the DFL against all claims by third parties resulting from a culpable breach of these conditions of participation or statutory provisions by the participants.
7. Place of jurisdiction and applicable law: These additional conditions of participation are governed exclusively by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. The place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from and in connection with the DFL Challenges is Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
8. Further provisions: In the event of any conflict between the provisions of these additional terms and conditions of participation for the DFL Challenges and those of the General Terms and Conditions for AWS events, including the AWS PartyRock terms and conditions, the AWS Code of Conduct and/or the AWS Privacy Notice, these additional terms and conditions of participation shall take precedence with regard to the DFL Challenges. Mandatory legal provisions of the country in which the participant has their habitual residence shall remain unaffected.
