Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy in the running for African Player of the Year 2025
Borussia Dortmund's deadly striker Serhou Guirassy is in the running for the 2025 African Footballer of the Year Award after a shortlist of 10 players was revealed by the Confédération Africaine de Football.
The Guinea international - capped 26 times by his country - finished runner-up to Atalanta's Ademola Lookman (formerly of RB Leipzig) last season and the BVB forward faces some stiff opposition this time around as he looks to lift the prize for the first time.
Guirassy has been in typically prolific form so far this season, scoring four goals in just six Bundesliga appearances to date and also hitting the target in the DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League.
Last term, the 29-year-old weighed in with an incredible 21 top-tier goals and was the joint-top scorer in the Champions League, finding the net 13 times in 14 games as the Black-Yellows reached the tournament's quarter-finals.

Past African Players of the Year who have at one time or another plied their trade in the Bundesliga are last year's winner Lookman, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Abédi Pelé and Sadio Mané.

A date for this year's awards ceremony has yet to be announced by the CAF.
