Rolland Sallai helps Hungary dump Scotland out of Euro 2024
Roland Sallai set up Kevin Csoboth's 100th-minute winner to keep Hungary's hopes of reaching the UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16 alive.
Scotland 0-1 Hungary
Goals: 0-1 Csoboth 90'+10 (assist: Sallai)
Scotland vs. Hungary quickly became the John McGinn vs. Dominik Szoboszlai show in Stuttgart as the pair of English Premier League stars led their sides for three quarters of the game. McGinn drew three yellow cards as he ran the show from midfield, but Scotland's forwards couldn't capitalise on their control of the ball. At the other end of the pitch, it was down to Szoboszlai to conjure something from a set piece, but he couldn't quite pull it off. The second period saw the chances start flowing as both sides needed a winner to stay in the competition. The little-known Kevin Csoboth had the best of those when he hit the post at the start of injury time, and just minutes later Scotland were screaming for a penalty on Stuart Armstrong. Just when it looked like the game would end scoreless, Freiburg's Sallai was found in space, and pulled the ball back for the most dramatic of winners from Csoboth. Scotland are now out of the tournament, while Hungary will be hoping results go their way elsewhere to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.
