Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer signs one-year contract extension
Manuel Neuer has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at Bayern Munich until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Neuer, who is widely regarded as the greatest goalkeeper in history, joined Bayern from boyhood club Schalke in summer 2011. The new deal means he will remain at the record champions until past his 40th birthday.
"I really enjoy playing football and want to remain a Bayern player," Neuer told the Bayern website. "I’m still hungry and am looking forward to another year at this special club. We’ve always had good talks. That’s a good feeling. It feels good and we’ve still got many goals to achieve together."
Neuer's list of accolades as a Bayern player includes 11 Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Champions Leagues and five DFB Cups. The 38-year-old has been captain since 2017 and recently broke into the Bundesliga's top 10 list of players with the most appearances.
"Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper of his generation and a Bayern icon," commented Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl. "When you talk about goalkeeping in our time, you talk about Manuel Neuer – and that’s around the world. He’s an absolute role model, both on and off the pitch. We’re delighted that this unique and successful relationship will continue."
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund added: "Manuel Neuer has been setting the bar for goalkeeping for over a decade. He’s our captain, a big figure at Bayern, and the team know they can always rely on him. We’re delighted that we can chase our goals next season with him as well."

Neuer - who retired from international football shortly after helping Germany reach the UEFA Euro 2024 quarter-finals as tournament hosts - has made 26 competitive appearances so far this season, only missing a handful of games through injury.
After the disappointment of a trophyless season in 2023/24, Neuer's Bayern have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with 14 rounds of fixtures remaining. The record champions are also through to the Champions League last 16 play-offs, where they have been paired with Celtic.
