Freiburg striker Junior Adamu moves to Celtic on loan
Freiburg striker Junior Adamu has joined Scottish Premiership side Celtic on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Austria international Adamu has made 18 appearances for the Breisgau outfit in all competitions this season, but has only played 11 minutes in the Bundesliga since a 2-1 victory over St. Pauli in November.
Seven of Adamu’s 18 appearances have come in the UEFA Europa League, where he started seven of Freiburg’s eight league phase fixtures to help Julian Schuster’s side qualify automatically for the last 16.
Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach said: "Junior has always given his best for the team; however, his minutes on the pitch were not favourable for either us or him of late, and we therefore hope to find new impetus with this loan to Celtic."
Upon his arrival in Glasgow, Adamu added: "I’m very excited to be here and I can’t wait to get started. I want to give my best for this club and try win the title, also the cup, and to score a lot of goals and help the team, and I also want to improve as a player."
Adamu joined Freiburg in June 2023 from Austrian side RB Salzburg, for whom he registered 23 goals and 11 assists in 84 appearances in all competitions.
The Nigeria-born frontman has made 67 competitive outings for Freiburg, scoring seven goals and setting up a further four.
He has also won nine senior caps for Austria since making his international debut in a 4-2 FIFA World Cup qualifying victory over Israel in November 2021.
