Dayot Upamecano has signed a long-term contract extension at Bayern Munich, keeping him at the record Bundesliga champions until June 2030.

Upamecano joined Bayern from league rivals RB Leipzig in July 2021 and has been a first-team regular ever since, registering six goals in 180 competitive outings.

“I’m really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team. We’ve got a great team and a great coach. We’ve got big goals together," said the 27-year-old of the decision to renew terms at Bayern. "I give my all for my teammates, in every training session, want to keep a clean sheet in every game and win as many titles as possible with Bayern.”

The 35-time France international has won three Bundesliga titles and three Supercups during his time at the club, and has this term formed a formidable partnership with Jonathan Tah at centre-back for Vincent Kompany's side.

“Dayot is another central figure in our team who we’ve been able to extend with. A squad needs anchor points, and we’ve got the next with Dayot. He has matured into a top international player here at Bayern. We’re looking forward to continuing our journey together," said board member for sport Max Eberl of the new deal.

Sporting director Christoph Freund added: “Dayot brings a really strong combination of speed, physicality and anticipation to our team. The way he plays is perfect for our style. And he’s developed into a truly world-class defender and leader here at Bayern. The whole package he brings is hugely valuable for our squad. We’re happy he’s staying with us.”

Bayern are still competing on three fronts this season, topping the Bundesliga table, into the DFB Cup semi-finals and through to the last 16 in the UEFA Champions League.

They are next in action away at Werder Bremen on Saturday, looking to protect their six-point lead over Borussia Dortmund.
