Is there any stopping Bayern Munich as more records fall?

Bayern Munich continued their record-breaking start to the campaign with a 3-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 8 of the Bundesliga. The question is, can anyone stop the Bavarians?

Despite difficult conditions - which also led to a 15-minute delay to kick-off after Bayern arrived at Borussia-Park late - Vincent Kompany's men were as ruthless as ever as they comfortably defeated the Foals. They were helped by Jens Castrop's early red card but, after Joshua Kimmich opened the scoring, Raphaël Guerreiro and Lennart Karl secured the points.

That strike - and a glorious one at that - was only the second goal of Karl's senior career, after he became Bayern's youngest-ever scoring in UEFA Champions League history in midweek. His overall performance underlined the abundance in attacking threat the Bavarians have at their disposal. Even with Harry Kane failing to find the back of the net for just the second time in 2025/26, the margin of victory was a comfortable one.

These latest three points mean that Bayern have a maximum 24 from their eight outings thus far. It is only the second time they have managed that at this point of a term, while their goal difference of +26 means this is currently the best start to a campaign in Bundesliga history. Their 30 goals after eight German top-flight fixtures is another record.

Their league form has coincided with a 100 percent beginning to the Champions League season. Add in their Franz Beckenbauer Supercup triumph and their progression to the DFB Cup second round, and they have now won all 13 fixtures they have played.

Not only is that a German record, but AC Milan's 1992/93 vintage are the only other team in the history of Europe's top five leagues to win so many consecutive matches in all competitions at the start of a campaign.

Speaking following the victory over Gladbach, goalscorer Kimmich discussed his side's flawless form, saying, "Our 13 competitive victories to start are no coincidence. It’s the reward for hard work, consistent training and a clear structure in the team. We have a really good team, you can see the lads who come on are ready immediately. That’s crucial.

"We’re happy for each other when they score or set up a goal. Our team is very homogenous, without everything being all sunshine and roses. It’s about performance, everyone wants to assert themselves, but we all do it for the team.”

With a five-point lead at the Bundesliga's summit, Bayern are already in pole position to win the Meisterschale. However, there is a feeling that this season could be even more special than just retaining the trophy they lifted last term.

Considering how merciless they have been, you wonder who will be able to stop them.

The record champions may already be looking at Bayer Leverkusen's unbeaten 2023/24 title-winning term as something they could emulate. By this point of their glorious run, Leverkusen had already required a stoppage-time equaliser in Munich on Matchday 4 to remain without a loss.

Bayern, on the other hand, have not even conceded first in any of their matches. Of course, they will be challenged at points this term, but at the moment you would expect them to pass every test they face with flying colours.
