Stuttgart travelled to Borussia-Park looking to extend their five-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga and strengthen their position in the top four, and they did just that. Sebastian Hoeneß's men had collected seven points from their first three matches of 2026, though they were coming off a Europa League loss at Roma.

Eugen Polanski's hosts were winless in three and had secured just one victory from their previous five league outings.

Nübel heroics turn the tide

The Foals started brightly with Franck Honorat causing early problems down the right flank. They were rewarded for their positive approach in the 11th minute when Honorat's cross struck the arm of Jamie Leweling, prompting referee Sören Storks to award a penalty after a VAR check.

Haris Tabaković stepped up but saw his spot-kick brilliantly saved by Alexander Nübel, diving low to his right. It proved a turning point as Stuttgart gradually took control of the game, with Jamie Leweling capitalising on poor defending to fire home from close range on the half-hour mark. Gladbach appeared deflated afterward, with Nübel's heroics clearly shifting momentum to the visitors.

Stuttgart pull away

The second half saw Stuttgart dominate proceedings. Moritz Nicolas kept the deficit to one with several important saves, denying both Nikolas Nartey and Ermedin Demirović in quick succession.

However, Stuttgart's pressure eventually told in the 67th minute when Chris Führich's corner was inadvertently turned into his own net by Joe Scally. The visitors made the game safe just seven minutes later, as substitute Deniz Undav received a pass from Angelo Stiller before turning and firing home from inside the box.

Player of the Match: Deniz Undav

Despite only coming on as a substitute in the 61st minute, Undav made a decisive impact on the match. The forward replaced Demirović and wasted little time in making his mark, scoring Stuttgart's third goal just 13 minutes after his introduction. His strike was clinically taken, receiving Stiller's pass before swivelling and firing a powerful shot that gave Nicolas no chance despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to it.

The goal demonstrated Undav's sharp instincts and finishing ability, capping an impressive team performance and helping to secure all three points.
