Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Diant Ramaj rejoins Heidenheim on loan
Diant Ramaj is back at Heidenheim, this time on a season-long loan from Borussia Dortmund.
Ramaj, 23, made his senior debut at Heidenheim before spells with Eintracht Frankfurt and Ajax. He joined Dortmund at the start of 2025, but spent the remainder of the campaign on loan at Copenhagen.
"We're delighted that Diant Ramaj has decided to return to us for a year, despite numerous offers from top clubs in Europe. We've known Diant since his youth, when he trained with our professionals at the age of 17. He made a fantastic development with us back then, which he has continued in Europe elsewhere," said Heidenheim CEO Holger Sanwald.
"Given Frank Feller's injury and the fact that Kevin Müller informed our head coach Frank Schmidt, goalkeeping coach Bernd Weng and I on the first training day of pre-season training that he would like to consider a move to the MLS, should he receive a potential offer, we've decided to make Diant Ramaj our new number one."
Ramaj kept 10 clean sheets in 19 appearances for Copenhagen during the second half of last season, picking up league and cup winner's medals.
The former Germany youth international has also played in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2, Eredivisie, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League. He has a contract with parent club Dortmund through to summer 2029.
"I'm delighted that I've been able to return to Heidenheim for the coming season, where I know the environment very well. I learnt a lot at FCH and it makes me proud to be able to prove myself in the Bundesliga at my youth club," Ramaj explained.
"My ultimate goal is to secure survival with the team at the end of the season. I will give my all to achieve this. Everyone can count on that!"
Heidenheim avoided relegation via the play-off last term, having ended their debut Bundesliga campaign in eighth place, qualifying for Europe as a result, just 12 months earlier.
Schmidt's team go to Bahlinger in the DFB Cup first round on 16 August, before beginning their third season in the German top flight at home to Wolfsburg a week later.
