Borussia Dortmund confirm USA summer tour with San Diego Loyal, Manchester United and Chelsea friendlies
Borussia Dortmund will head to the USA this summer, where they will play friendlies against San Diego Loyal, Manchester United and Chelsea as part of a tour.
It will be Dortmund’s fourth trip to the US, following their maiden American adventure in 1954 and more recent visits in 2018 and 2019.
BVB will cross the Atlantic at the end of July. They will face San Diego Loyal at the Snapdragon Stadium on 27 July, before taking on Man United – and former Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho – at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada three days later.
They then will head north to Chicago, Illinois, for another high-profile game against Chelsea at Soldier Field on 2 August. Former Dortmund and US national team playmaker Christian Pulisic may feature for Chelsea in that.
The fixtures will give American fans the opportunity to see USA international Gio Reyna in action first hand, the 20-year-old having made a name for himself in Dortmund after joining the club as a teenager in summer 2019.
"If you take a look at the big clubs that are spending part of their pre-season preparations in the USA this summer and also playing high-profile friendlies, then it is only logical that we at Borussia Dortmund should not ignore this trend,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
"In the coming weeks, our focus in planning the trip will be on creating the perfect mix of training and matches, as well as meetings with the local people."
