VfB Stuttgart to host Bayern Munich in Franz Beckenbauer Supercup
The curtain is set to rise on the 2025/26 season this very Saturday when hosts and DFB Cup holders VfB Stuttgart welcome the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich for the inaugural Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
The annual Supercup, which features the winners of the previous season’s two domestic titles in Germany, was officially renamed in honour of the late Beckenbauer in December 2024, with the first edition bearing the German football legend’s name to be played at Stuttgart's MHP Arena this weekend.
The Kaiser’s boyhood club, Bayern, are set to compete for the Supercup for the 14th time following the one-off match’s reintroduction in 2010, after they reclaimed the Bundesliga title in 2024/25.

Hosts Stuttgart are contesting the Supercup for the second straight year, after losing the 2024 edition on penalties to double winners Bayer Leverkusen.
Sebastian Hoeneß led the Swabians to their fourth DFB Cup success by beating Arminia Bielefeld 4-2 in the final in Berlin on 24 May. VfB lifted the Supercup in its previous guise in 1992.
"By naming the Supercup after Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away in January 2024, the DFL and DFB are jointly honoring his contributions to German football," a DFL statement read, in relation to the renaming of the showpiece curtain raiser.

Bayern will kick off the new Bundesliga season on Friday, 22 August.
