Bayern Munich legends Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski face off in MLS
Former Bayern Munich legends Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski faced off in MLS, as Chicago Fire, who Lewandowski joined this summer, hosted Vancouver Whitecaps, who Müller has played for since last year.
There were warm scenes between the pair, who played at Bayern together between 2014 and 2022, around the clash at Soldier Field.
Unlike in the 2020 UEFA Champions League final, when the duo secured victory for Bayern, there could only be one winner this time.
Lewandowski, who won eight Bundesliga titles in Bavaria, laid on an assist for Maren Haile-Selassie to wrap up a 3-1 win for the hosts in the 88th minute.
Müller, who lifted 13 Bundesliga crowns with Bayern as well as the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League, still has plenty to smile about as the Whitecaps remain at the top of the Western Conference despite the defeat in Chicago.
The win takes Chicago Fire into fourth place in the Eastern Conference, leaving them well positioned to make the Playoffs.
The pair of Bayern legends could therefore potentially clash again in the MLS Cup final.
