Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies named in Canada CONCACAF Gold Cup squad
Bayern Munich's young Canadian star Alphonso Davies has been named in his country's CONCACAF Gold Cup squad.
Davies has been included along with defender Scott Kennedy of Bundesliga 2 side Jahn Regensburg in the Canada roster for the tournament, which will take place in the United States from 10 July to 1 August.
The Bayern speedster was the leading scorer on his Gold Cup debut in 2017 and was also named the best young player at that edition of the competition after finding the back of the net three times on Canada's way to the quarter-finals.
Two years later, Davies took on the role of national team provider in another run to the last-eight stage as he laid on three assists for his teammates.
Despite his youth, the 2020 Canadian Player of the Year heads to his third Gold Cup as a senior talisman in the side, and with nine goals from 23 international appearances to date.
Watch: 2020/21 was a big season for Davies

The three-time Bundesliga winner - who recently donated bottled water and other hot-weather essentials during the North American heatwave - will now use all of his experience to aid Canada's bid to claim a first Gold Cup title since 2000.
Canada lifted the trophy in February that year, eight months before Davies was even born.
They will start their campaign against Martinique in Kansas city on 11 July in a Group B that also contains a United States side that features Schalke striker Matthew Hoppe.
