Fresh injury worry for Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was substituted off at half-time of his side's Matchday 25 encounter with Borussia Mönchengladbach, sparking fresh injury concerns about the 39-year-old.
Neuer missed Bayern's last two games after sustaining a minor injury against Werder Bremen on 14 February, but had been declared fit to start the Matchday 25 curtain-raiser.
However, his comeback was cut short as the goalkeeper remained in the changing room at half-time and was replaced by Jonas Urbig.
“Manuel felt a slight twinge in his calf," head coach Vincent Kompany said after the final whistle. "The next game is coming up very soon. I don't want to speculate yet. Let's see what happens.”
The club then confirmed the following day that their captain had again picked up a minor muscle tear in the same calf as previously and will be out of action once more.
Neuer will therefore miss Tuesday's UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg against Atalanta at the very least. Bayern then go to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend before hosting the Italians for the second leg. Union Berlin are then the visitors to Munich on 21 March.
