Kompany & Co. will go into their meeting with Bayer Leverkusen with added confidence after tonight's thumping of Atalanta. Bayern will look to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a win over sixth-placed Leverkusen on Saturday, who they beat 3-0 earlier on in the season. The following Wednesday, they'll welcome Atalanta to the Allianz Arena in the second and final leg of the Champions League round of 16.

Bayern record an incredible victory here in Bergamo, smashing six past Atalanta in a red-hot performance. Jackson wasted no time in adding their fourth after the re-start, before Olise bagged a brilliant second and Musiala got himself on the scoresheet from close range. The hosts did get a consolation goal late on, but that's all it was, with Bayern racing into a surely uncatchable lead in this round of 16 first-leg.

Kompany's Italian job

The Bayern boss has only faced one Italian side in his managerial career to date - Inter Milan in last season's Champions League quarter-finals. The Italians got the better of Bayern and Kompany that time, but the Belgian will be itching to put things right in this season's competition.

There are several Bundesliga alumni amongst the Atalanta squad. Odilon Kossounou (Bayer Leverkusen), Sead Kolašinac (Schalke), Mitchel Bakker (Bayer Leverkusen) and Lazar Samardžić (Hertha Berlin, RB Leipzig) have all featured in the German top flight during their careers.

Bayern have won 11 and drawn three of their last 16 games against Serie A opponents (L2). One of those defeats came in last season's quarter-final first leg, when they were beaten 2-1 by Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena. A 2-2 draw at the San Siro in the return game was not enough to prevent the Nerazzurri from reaching the last four.

Atalanta's record against German clubs

The Bergamo outfit have lost only three of their 13 European meetings with German opposition, winning seven and drawing three. They have triumphed in four of their last five encounters with Bundesliga clubs, with last month's 2-0 reverse at Dortmund their only defeat in that time.

Kane set to return

The centre-forward was missing from the clash against Gladbach, but he is expected to be available for this one. With 45 goals in all competitions this term, his firepower will be worth its weight in gold.
