Heidenheim vs. Bayern Munich: Pre-season friendly build-up and live blog

Harry Kane and Michael Olise will be hoping to get their first minutes of pre-season under their belt as Bayern Munich play their final friendly away to Heidenheim at the Voith-Arena on Tuesday 18 August (kick-off 6pm CEST).

After securing a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, Bayern were eager to book in one final 90 minutes of competitive football before their 2026/27 campaign gets underway in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund on 22 August.

The Bavarians' triumvirate of World Cup returnees - Kane, Olise, and Dayot Upamecano - are likely to feature to ensure their fitness levels are up to scratch ahead of Der Klassiker, whilst both Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl could also make cameo appearances after working back from injury. New signing Ismael Saibari, who grabbed a debut assist off the bench against Leipzig, may also make a first start for the record champions.

Bayern Munich 3-1 RB Leipzig

However, Kompany will likely be unable to call upon the talents of Konrad Laimer, Minjae Kim and Jamal Musiala, after all three were withdrawn in the victory over Die Roten Bullen having picked up injuries during the encounter.

Meanwhile, Bayern's opponents Heidenheim are already two matchdays into their Bundesliga 2 campaign. Schmidt's side claimed an eyewatering 4-3 victory at home to newly-promoted VfL Osnabrück in their season's curtain-raiser, which they followed up with a disappointing 4-1 defeat on the road to Hertha Berlin the following week.

Heidenheim's long-serving coach will no doubt be hoping that this test against the record champions can motivate his side to bounce back when they travel to face SSV Jeddeloh II in the first round of the DFB Cup on 23 August.

Konrad Laimer on his fitness

It was a worrying sight for Bayern fans as their Austrian utility man had to be helped off the pitch in the early stages of the meeting with Leipzig at the Allianz Arena. However, speaking at the champions' Allianz FC Bayern team day at the FC Bayern Campus, Laimer revealed: "Everything’s fine; I took a knock – but it’s no big deal, I should be back to normal soon."

Injury updates

There were concerns after the Leipzig fixture over the fitness of three key players after Jamal Musiala, Konrad Laimer, and Minjae Kim all had to be withdrawn with injuries sustained throughout the match. Neither Musiala, nor Laimer took part in training on Monday, though Kim did, which possibly signals he may share centre-back duties with Upamecano against Heidenheim, whilst the Frenchman continues to work back to full match fitness.

Kane on likelihood of a Supercup appearance

“I’ve already spoken with the coach about it. It’s only one week of preparation, but I’m used to a quick turnaround. I’ve had these kinds of tournaments almost every year in my career [...] Whether it’s 90 minutes or 45 depends on how I feel this week.”
