Bayern Munich’s record-breaking season is showing no signs of slowing down following their latest statement victory against RB Leipzig. With 16 matchdays remaining, numerous records could still be broken as the record champions aim for the stars…

Bayern were once again in irresistible form at the Red Bull Arena. Although Rômulo’s early goal gave the hosts the lead at the break, the Bavarians netted five without reply in the second period through Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane, Jonathan Tah, Aleksandar Pavlović and Michael Olise.

Their current tally of 50 points and +57 difference is the best return after 18 games in Bundesliga history. The current gold standard was set in 2012/13, when Bayern finished with 91 points and a goal difference of +80. As it stands, Bayern are on course to surpass that tally. Should they maintain their current points-per-game average of 2.78, they would end up on 94 points.

That would, more than likely, require them going unbeaten for the rest of the season, which would make them only the second team to do so in the German top flight after Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24. At this stage, breaking the record single-season goal tally as a team appears more likely.

So far in their 18 fixtures, Bayern have found the back of the net on a remarkable 71 occasions. Unsurprisingly, that is also the best-ever haul at this point of a campaign, coming in at an average of 3.74 goals per outing. There have already been several huge wins, with Leipzig suffering the brunt of Bayern’s scoring wrath by shipping 11 times across their two meetings with Vincent Kompany’s men.

The Munich-based outfit have bagged four and five goals on three occasions apiece, six twice, and even put eight past Wolfsburg on Matchday 16.

To surpass the current record number of 101 goals (by Bayern in 1971/72), they will need 32 more in the remaining 15 fixtures. On this form, that could well be child’s play.

Several Bayern stars have displayed clinical finishing, but Kane once again leads the way. Having already been the Torjägerkönig in each of his first two Bundesliga seasons, the Englishman is on track to make it a hat-trick after plundering 21 goals thus far. As such, Robert Lewandowski’s single-season record of 41 goals and whether Kane can beat it is the topic of much conversation.

By the end of Matchday 18 during that unforgettable 2020/21 season, the legendary Pole had struck 23 times, twice more than Kane. After an electric start that saw the latter rack up two hat-tricks and two braces in the opening five matchdays, his pace has slowed slightly. Nevertheless, he has only failed to find the back of the net five times, suggesting that a plethora of goals are inevitably still to come.

While Kane is his side’s main goalscorer, Olise has been the leading provider of assists. In addition to his goal, the Frenchman made three others in the win over Leipzig at the weekend to take his tally to 13 for the campaign, just two behind the league-leading 15 he amassed during the entire 2024/25 season.

That was the second time this term in which he has managed a trio of assists in a single game, putting Thomas Müller’s overall record of 21 goals created during 2019/20 at risk. After 18 games of that campaign, the Raumdeuter had 12 assists, giving Olise a slight edge as it stands.

Bayern’s main goal will be to wrap up the defence of their Bundesliga title as quickly and convincingly as possible before going in search of the DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League trophies to complete what would be another memorable treble. On current form, Kane, Olise and the team as a whole have every chance of writing themselves into the history books in the process.
