Harry Kane gets off the mark and eyes next milestone of Bayern Munich career
Harry Kane ended his brief goal 'drought' – by his high standards – in the Bundesliga and secured a closely contested victory for Bayern Munich in Elversberg in the process. In doing so, he hit a significant milestone – and the next one is already on the horizon.
Kane's start to the 2026/27 Bundesliga season had, up until Sunday's clash with surprise package Elversberg, been somewhat unusual, in that he had failed to find the net in Bayern's first two matches, namely a comfortable 5-1 victory over Stuttgart and a scoreless draw with a Loris Karius-inspired Schalke.
Given the Englishman's remarkable consistency, which has seen him rack up an incredible 98 goals in 96 league matches prior to Matchday 3, this brief dry spell was always going to be rectified sooner rather than later.
And in the tight 2–1 win at Elversberg, the Ballon d'Or contender did exactly that, scoring the crucial winning goal in impressively clinical fashion, after Maurice Krattenmacher's stunning curler from the edge of the box had threatened to snatch a point for the top-tier newcomers.

150 goals in 153 competitive matches
It can appear at times as if Kane is attaining new milestones at Bayern virtually every week. This was actually the case on Sunday evening, though: his emphatically struck winner was his 150th goal in 153 competitive encounters for the record champions.
According to the man who set him up for the goal, Aleksandar Pavlović, it was also one to remember. "Harry slotted that one in superbly," said the dynamic midfielder. "He likes that little move; he does it quite often. He executed it brilliantly, to be fair. I'm happy I was able to play the ball to him and that we can take the three points back home with us."
Even Elversberg head coach Vincent Wagner could not hide his admiration for Kane and the finishing skills he displayed, quipping: "He makes it look effortless too – you’d think he does that sort of thing all the time!"

Next milestone around the corner
Kane himself took a more philosophical approach when asked to reflect on his recent lack of goals in the Bundesliga. "That's football," he noted. "Sometimes you need to wait a bit longer than you wanted, but it was nice to score a goal today and contribute to the win. They were three important points. It's not easy to play here, so we're happy about the win."
It has been a good week overall for the Munich club, who put five unanswered goals past Bodø/Glimt in their UEFA Champions League opener on Thursday – a match in which Kane also scored, inevitably – and, with seven points under their belts, are now up into joint-third in the table.
With the reigning champions facing Union Berlin in the Matchday 4 curtain-raiser on Friday, they could – at least on a provisional basis – leapfrog Augsburg, Borussia Dortmund and Freiburg to reclaim top spot in the standings.
And Kane could once again take centre stage in that match by notching what would be his 100th Bundesliga goal. After all, as fans of German football know by now, 'King Kane' sets new records every week...
