It's full-time, and Schalke have pulled off an incredible result. The players are celebrating the draw like a win, and they deserve to do so. They nullified one of the best attacks in world football for the entire game and fought their way to a deserved 0-0 draw.

88'

Off target

Upamecano beats Karius to an inswinging corner, but his header from the back post goes wide.

0:22

Stunning save

The ball drops to Kane 25 yards from goal, and the Englishman unleashes a piledriver that Karius brilliantly tips over the bar. That was heading for the top corner.

84'

The captain is on

Karaman replaces Aouchiche for the hosts. Their captain had been struggling with an injury in the early phases of this season.

83'

Can Schalke hold on?

We're approaching the final few minutes of normal time now.

82'

Deflected wide

Bischof's low shot takes a deflection and squirms just wide of the far post.

78'

Still no way through

xGoals

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).

Bayern have now built up nearly 1.5 xG and are still yet to score.

Vitalie Becker beats Pavlović to the ball on the left and is brought to the ground. That'll be a yellow card for the Bayern man.

70'

No way through

Musiala goes on a mazy run to the byline, where Kuruçay is waiting to clear the ball behind for a corner. Great defending once more from Schalke.

68'

Bayern denied again

Olise looks to have shooting space in the box, only to lose possession. The ball falls to Díaz, but his shot is blocked by Timo Becker.

Side netting

Pavlović chips the ball over the top for Laimer in the box. He has space to shoot, but he slices his effort into the side netting.

59'

Schalke swimming

Díaz almost rounds Karius, but loses possession and then a few seconds later, Olise goes on the outside and shoots with his right, only to be denied by Karius. Those changes have certainly had an impact.

Double change

More big-name Bayern changes as Musiala and Olise are on for Karl and Saibari.

55'

Headed over

Tah gets up well to meet Kimmich's corner, but he can only head over whilst under pressure.

54'

Another big chance wasted

Davies wins the ball, and the Schalke defence is disorganised. The Canadian feeds Luis Díaz on the right, and again he is in a great position to finish, but his dinked effort has far too little pace on it, and Kuruçay gets back to clear.

52'

Big block

Karl has space on the right with Kane waiting in the centre, but Katić is in the middle to head the youngster's cross behind. Great defending.

48'

Great defending

Díaz looks to cause problems in the penalty area, but Dina Ebimbe does brilliantly to make the challenge.

46'

Back underway

The ball is moving once again as Kane replaces Brown for Bayern.

Kick-off!

Half-time: Schalke 0-0 Bayern

Schalke have been excellent in the opening 45 minutes, restricting Bayern to just a couple of good opportunities whilst posing a threat of their own on the break, even if the Schalke forrays forward haven't turned into chances. Could the Royal Blues pull off a surprise against the champions?

Added time

There will be two additional minutes before the break.

44'

Awkward for Karius

Díaz gets to the byline and fires in a deflected cross that almost causes problems for Karius, but the Schalke goalkeeper readjusts quickly to gather the ball.

41'

Díaz wastes a massive chance

Brown takes the ball smoothly in his stride and slides a pass through to Díaz in the box. He takes a touch onto his favoured right foot before looking to bend an effort into the far corner, but he gets his shot horribly wrong and scuffs his effort into the stands under pressure from Timo Becker. That was a big opportunity.

39'

Almost

El-Faouzi almost gets space in the box, but he is denied just before he can shoot.

38'

Schalke a threat on the counter

Bayern have nearly been left thin on numbers at the back a couple of times now.

36'

Neuer brought into action

Aouchiche tries his luck from the free-kick and gets some decent power and whip on it, but Neuer has plenty of time to dive across and make the save.

0:24

Great work from Sylla

The Schalke forward pinches the ball off Upamecano on halfway and runs towards the box before the Frenchman trips him. Luckily for Upamecano, there were recovering defenders, and so he is only shown a yellow card.

35'

Yellow card

Dayot Upamecano

31'

Upamecano chopped down

The Frenchman tries to burst forward, but he is hacked down rather unceremoniously by Dina Ebimbe.

31'

Yellow card

30'

Over the bar

A ball intended for Brown in the box rolls loose to Saibari on the edge of the box, but his whipped shot is off target.

29'

Good delivery

Saibari spins his man neatly on the edge of the box and fires in a low cross that Gosens turns behind for a corner.

Schalke holding their own

Nearly 30 minutes played now, and after a nervy start, Schalke have really grown into the match and have limited Bayern to just that one chance for Brown.

25'

Dina Ebimbe down in the box

Nothing given again, the defender got his body in the way well.

24'

Big appeal

A long throw bounces up off Upamecano, and there is a loud appeal for handball, but nothing is given. The ball hit the defender's head directly before his arm.

20'

A couple of free-kicks in good positions

First, Laimer gives away a free kick in a good crossing position and now Díaz. Can Schalke make something of it? Not this time. The ball goes behind for a goal kick.

16'

A big loss?

Katić is down and receiving treatment. Will the Schalke centre-back be able to continue? He's playing on for now.

0:19

Brown denied

Kimmich chips the ball into the box for Pavlović, and he does well to bring it under his spell before laying it off for Brown, who is superbly denied by a diving save from Karius.

11'

Bayern controlling the ball

Not really a big surprise to see the huge gulf in possession statistics in the opening 11 minutes.

8'

The ball rolls wide

Davies is fed on the left, and he sends in an early low cross that rolls all the way through and just wide of the far post.

7'

A spell of Schalke possession

Having been camped inside their own box for the opening few minutes, Schalke now have a little bit of possession themselves, and for a moment there, they looked like they might threaten on the break through Sylla.

3'

First effort

Karl takes down a long crossfield pass, cuts inside and shoots, but his effort is easy for Karius to deal with.

Kick-off is approaching here in Gelsenkirchen. The teams make their way out onto the pitch, and we're moments away from a ball being kicked.

Making history?

Never before in Bundesliga history have two players, 40 or over, been on the pitch at the same time. Neuer and Džeko, who is 10 days older than Bayern's custodian, can make history this evening!

Vincent Kompany on facing Schalke

“We’re seen as the favourites, but we can’t afford to believe that. Every game starts from zero. A good performance against Osnabrück and Stuttgart doesn’t automatically carry over. We can't let them be hungrier than we are. Their anticipation after three years is enormous.”

Miron Muslić on facing Bayern

"The return of Bundesliga football to the Veltins-Arena is special for us and our fans, who have had to wait a long time for this. Facing Bayern is the biggest challenge in the league, no matter who you are. They're the best team so we know what we're up against, but we're looking forward to the game."
