Baum returned to Augsburg for a second stint as coach on 1 December 2025. The 46-year-old was initially brought in on a caretaker basis, before agreeing to take the reins until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Augsburg were flirting with relegation at the time, but stormed up the rankings - even ending defending champions Bayern Munich's unbeaten league run - to finish ninth.

"Even though the plans surrounding my role as Head of Development & Football Innovation were different, working with the team, staff and coaches every day over the past few months has been so hugely enjoyable that I'm very keen to continue on the path we've started together," said Baum, who has signed a deal through to 30 June 2028.

Sporting director Benni Weber added: "Manuel and the coaching staff turned things around during a difficult period in autumn 2025. A strong second half of the season also saw us achieve the third-best Bundesliga finish in FCA history. We're convinced that this arrangement gives us a very good foundation for a successful future together."

The 2026/27 season will be Augsburg's 16th in a row as a Bundesliga club, following the Bavarian outfit's maiden promotion in 2011.
