5 reasons Eintracht Frankfurt will come out on top against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena
They've been a thorn in the side of Bayern Munich of late and Eintracht Frankfurt will once again look to be the banana skin on which the hosts slip this Sunday as Dino Toppmöller's team attempt to keep the title race fully alive. bundesliga.com outlines five reasons for Sunday's visitors to be confident.
1) Bayern’s bogey team
The last time these sides met on Matchday 6, it was a battle of first versus second with just one point separating leaders Bayern from Eintracht. A blockbuster 3-3 draw followed at Deutsche Bank Park, with the Eagles – who at one point led 2-1 – rescuing a point with almost the last kick of the game thanks to Omar Marmoush’s fine finish.
The Egyptian may since have moved on to English Premier League side Manchester City, but Frankfurt remain a formidable foe for the record champions, with coach Dino Topmöller overseeing one of the best young, attacking sides on the continent.
Speaking after last weekend’s 3-1 win against Holstein Kiel that helped Die Adler consoliodate third place, defender Tuta said, “We need to be fully fresh and 100 percent focused when we face Bayern.” Yet with Eintracht taking points from the Bavarian giants in three of the teams’ last four meetings and five of the last eight (with three wins and two draws for Sunday's visitors in that time), it is Bayern, too, who will need to be on full alert this weekend.

2) The best-ever Eintracht
There is no doubt we are witnessing something very special on the Main this season. Frankfurt are purring to the tune of 12 wins and 42 points after 22 Bundesliga matchdays. That points haul at this stage of a season has only ever been achieved by Eintracht on three previous occasions: namely under Dietrich Weise (in 1973/74), Jörg Berger (1989/90) and Adi Hütter (2020/21).
The notable distinction this time around is that the current Frankfurt side have a better goal difference than their predecessors, having scored 49 goals while concededing 29 for a +20 ratio. In short, this is the finest Bundesliga team the Eagles have ever produced, and they will be eager to hammer home that fact with a win at the Allianz Arena on Sunday!

3) Tough nuts to crack
That Bayern will have their work cut out for them on the newly renamed Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz 5 this weekend has already been made clear here. Now throw into the mix that Eintracht are unbeaten in this calendar year, and the visitors take on an even tougher guise.
Kevin Trapp, Hugo Larsson, Mario Götze, Hugo Ekitiké et al. have remained untouchable since the winter break, when they have collected four wins and three draws in their seven Bundesliga games. Indeed, if there were a table only for 2025, Eintracht would be in second spot, just behind their forthcoming opponents Bayern.

4) Goal kings
Eintracht can score from anywhere, be it via their versatile young-gun Nathaniel Brown, the aforementioned midfield machine Larsson, French forward Ekitiké or Turkish teen sensation Can Uzun. In fact, Frankfurt currently boast the longest active scoring run in the division, with Toppmöller’s team registering at least a goal in every top-flight game since Matchday 2.
That means the Eagles have netted in 21 matches in a row in the Bundesliga, while they have hit an average of more than two goals per game. Eintracht’s 49 goals after 22 matchdays is is the club’s best return in 43 years, when the side managed 55 goals at this stage of the season in 1981/82.
5) Threats all over the pitch
As mentioned, Frankfurt’s players do like a goal. It often seems like goalkeeper Trapp is the only player who hasn’t managed to find the net in what is a prolific campaign for the Bundesliga’s third-placed team. As many as 15 different players have now found the net for Eintracht in 2024/25. Furthermore, 28 of the team’s 49 goals have been scored by strikers, which is something even the mighty Bayern – who can count on the exceptional Harry Kane in their ranks, if fit for Sunday – can claim (Vincent Kompany’s side have managed 24 goals by strikers so far this season).
Among Eintracht’s tally, Ekitiké has netted a personal best 12 times, while the France U21 international has also scored against Bayern in his last two games against the men in red. Ekitiké may or may not know that a certain Erling Haaland most recently scored in three consecutive games aganst the Bavarians for Borussia Dortmund. If the 22-year-old is aware of that recent indivdiual record run against Bayern, he will most certainly try even harder to emulate it.
