Full-time: Union Berlin 2-2 Werder Bremen

A fantastic game of football comes to an end with the spoils shared. Bremen started brilliant, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes through Jens Stage, but efforts from Tom Rothe and László Bénes earned them a point. While Union are already safe, this result is a blown to Bremen's hopes of securing European football for the first time in 14 years.

What a goal!

That is a strike worthy of a point as Bénes curls one into the top corner from a tight angle. Brilliant - there was nothing Zetterer could!

Can Union find an equaliser here? They have still have plenty of time to do so.

Huge miss!

Union should be level! Ilić has the freedom of the box, but he can't find the target as he fires wide of the post. He knows that was a great opening.

Steffen Baumgart on facing Bremen

"I expect an opponent who wants to reach international competition. This is a team in great form at the moment and one that has been together for three years. We want to defend very well, find our way forward by winning the ball, be very aggressive, and keep the points here. I expect a game in which both teams give their all."

Ole Werner on facing Union

"With their style of play, they make it very difficult to score. They've rediscovered their typical strengths: deep defending and good set pieces. Therefore, we must remain patient, avoid being caught in a trap, and find solutions offensively against a deep-lying opponent. Set pieces can be an important tool for us, too."

Union on form

With just one loss from their last eight, Union have put themselves 11 points clear of the relegation place, thus ensuring their place in the Bundesliga for next season. That run has seen them win three, draw four and lose just once, to Kiel.

Found their rhythm

Facing a trip to Union Berlin today, Werder Bremen have won four of their last five, drawing the remaining game, meaning they're just two points off Borussia Dortmund in the Europa Conference League spot, and three away from Leipzig in fifth.

MD32 stakes

Union are safe after last weekend's results. A win for Bremen could potentially take them into the top six and one of the guaranteed European qualifying places.

Union appeal rejected

A court has upheld the German Football Association's decision to award Bochum a 2-0 win from their interrupted Matchday 14 game against Union Berlin, rejecting the capital club's appeal. It means the 1-1 draw between Union Berlin and Bochum on Matchday 14 remains in the standings as a 2-0 win and three points for Bochum based on the DFB sports tribunal (DFB-Sportgericht) ruling of 9 January 2025.
