FIGHT TO THE END!

Frankfurt certainly made a fight of it and that will boost them as they prepare to host Strasbourg in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, but Leipzig have held on to a second straight win, on the day Werner penned a new contract.

ONE CHANGE

Laimer comes on for Demme, perhaps in view of the yellow card he picked up in the first half. Otherwise, no other changes and it's 1-0 to Leipzig.

MUKIELE LABOURING

Leipzig cannot make any more changes as Mukiele fights through the pain barrier with a bout of cramp. Just a few minutes to get across the line.

FAMILIAR FEELING FOR KOHR

That is only his 49th yellow card in the Bundesliga

SIX OF THE BEST

Just SIX minutes of stoppage time - more than enough for Frankfurt to salvage a point!

SPOKE TOO SOON?

There could be a late twist in this game as Paciencia turns in Chandler's cross on the volley from five yards out. With stoppage time abound, this game has come back to life!
80'

WRAPPED UP!

That should be that! Poulsen meets a Halstenberg cross from the left wing and, with a powerful volley, he's threaded that through Trapp's legs to make it 2-0!

WORRY FOR WERNER

Ademola Lookman comes on for Werner, who looks to be in quite a bit of agony on the side of the field. A bittersweet day for Leipzig's potential matchwinner, who signed a new contract to stay at the club until 2023 today too.
78'

TWO CHANGES

Chandler and De Guzman are on, but the one change Frankfurt want to see is in the scoreline - just over ten minutes left for them to amend that.
68'

COOLING BREAK

Another much-needed break in play for rehydration. In the first half, Frankfurt produced some of their best football after the cooling break - can they do the same again and get an equaliser?
66'

DO NOT GO AWAY!

This game is anything but over! A sweeping pass finds Paciencia in behind the Leipzig defence. He tries to lob the ball over Gulacsi, but the Leipzig keeper is not having any of it, successfully making the block.
60'

IMPRESSIVE SHIFT

Nkunku comes off after a highly impressive hour. Frankfurt's relief in seeing him plod off does not last long, as they see Forsberg coming on. Another tricky customer for the Frankfurt defence.
57'

FRANKFURT GETTING FOOT ON BALL

Frankfurt have enjoyed quite a prolonged spell of possession - probably their longest period on the ball so far. They cannot get into a position to shoot, but it will be encouraging for them.
49'

WERNER CLOSE!

Another big chance for Leipzig, orchestrated by Nkunku and Werner. The latter has just Trapp to beat, but the Frankfurt keeper makes a save with his leg. Still 1-0. Frankfurt still in this.

DESERVED LEAD FOR LEIPZIG

It's 1-0 at the break and Leipzig are good value for their lead, but will they rue missing so many chances? Frankfurt threatened through Kostic and can be expected to double their efforts to level in the second half, which promises to be a thriller.

KOSTIC INTO THE CLOUDS

Kostic, who was earlier frustrated that the referee felt he had led the ball out of play when he hadn't, hits a shot from distance, but there is no danger to Gulacsi in the Leipzig goal as it continues to rise over his crossbar.
34'

POULSEN HEADER

A good chance for Poulsen to add a second, but he cannot get any direction on his header from six yards out. He was at full stretch, and sandwiched between two Frankfurt defenders.
27'

PACIENCIA EFFORT

That break may have benefitted Frankfurt as they emerge with Paciencia testing Gulacsi, who had been a spectator since the sixth minute.
24'

COOLING BREAK

A chance to catch our breath as both teams get a minute to hydrate. So far it's been Leipzig's afternoon, but they only have a one-goal lead to show for it.
19'

KLOSTERMANN, WERNER, NKUNKU...

They are all lining up to take a shot! Werner should maybe have done better - or at least you would expect more from him - but the chances are arriving quick and fast for the hosts.
17'

SABITZER SHOT BLOCKED

It's still one-way traffic here. After Nkunku brilliantly dribbled his way down the left, the ball eventually finds its way to the right, where Sabitzer takes aim from distance. One unlucky Frankfurt defender got in the way of that, taking a bruising but thwarting the effort.
12'

CONFIDENT WERNER

He said that he can now focus on his football having signed a new contract, and if this is the result of that, Leipzig fans will be licking their lips. He has just delivered a tasty ball for Poulsen, but the Dane just could not quite reach it in front of goal.
11'

WERNER STRIKES!

What a way to celebrate signing a new contract! Poulsen flicks on a right-wing corner and Werner is totally unmarked to swivel and volley inside Kevin Trapp's right-hand post.

Timo Werner

GOAL!

KOSTIC CLOSE

First opening of the game and it is Filip Kostic getting to the goalline and sending in a shot from a tight angle which goes agonisingly across the face of the goal.
5'

FRENETIC PACE

It's a very lively start to the game with Leipzig intent on attacking, but Frankfurt ready to break at speed. It's 28C/83F out there too – not sure how long they can sustain this pace.
Kick-off!

KICK-OFF!

We're underway in Julian Nagelsmann's first home game in charge of RB Leipzig.

JOVELJIC DEBUT

In the absence of Rebic, Dejan Joveljic makes his Bundesliga debut today, partnering Goncalo Paciencia in a side which, considering this is already their eighth competitive fixture this season, is much-changed from their opening 1-0 win over Hoffenheim last weekend. Indeed, there are five changes – including matchwinner Martin Hinteregger dropping to the bench.

DURM RETURNS

Erik Durm returns to make his first Bundesliga appearance in over two years. After last playing for Borussia Dortmund in May 2017, injury ruined the World Cup winner's 2017/18 campaign before he moved to the English Premier League and played 28 times for Huddersfield Town last term. Today, he makes his Frankfurt debut.

REBIC AND GACINOVIC INJURED

Two names that are somewhat surprisingly missing from the Frankfurt teamsheet are Ante Rebic and Mijat Gacinovic. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the pair have both had to pull out due to injuries.

MARKUS KRÖSCHE THANKS WERNER

"Of course we're pleased that Timo Werner's decided to extend his contract with us," said Leipzig's sporting director Markus Krösche. "This is a very positive signal and underlines our ambition of tying down our key players on long-term contracts and establishing ourselves as a leading force in the Bundesliga."

WERNER EXTENDS

Some big news for Leipzig fans less than an hour before kick-off: Timo Werner has extended his contract to 2023! "I'm pleased to have signed an extended contract with RB Leipzig," said the Germany international on his club's website. "It's dragged on a lot, but I wanted to be totally certain that I could take the next step in my development at this club. "Sometimes you just need a bit more time to make the right decision, but now I can focus fully on playing the most successful season possible with our team."
