Following their promotion to Bundesliga 2, Jahn Regensburg have paid an emotional tribute to Agyemang "Agy" Diawusie, who tragically died earlier this season at just 25.

Diawusie, a former Germany youth international, had made 12 league appearances and 16 in all competitions before news broke of his sudden death on 28 November 2023.

It left the club and its players reeling, but they managed to honour their former winger by securing an emotional return to the second tier.

Regensburg paid tribute to Diawusie after victory in their relegation/promotion play-off, with the wounds in the side evidently still raw.

"I still haven't gotten over Diawusie's death. I still find it difficult to talk about it," said coach Joe Enochs after sealing promotion. "Our motto is 'Team first'. The team lived by that every day. Agy is a part of us, a part of this team."

Konrad Faber, a hero in the play-offs, shared the same sentiment as his boss, saying: "We did it for Agy. We swore that we would get promoted for him. I'm sure he's sitting up there watching. That he's so proud of what we've achieved.

"He's a part of it, we did it for him. We swore to play for him in the last two games. I'm so proud that I was able to play a season in which Agy was part of it. The promotion and my goal are for him."

Dewusie spent seven years in Regensburg's academy before rejoining the club at the start of the 2023/24 season. In the intervening years, he spent time at Nuremberg and RB Leipzig, among others.
