Full-time: Fortuna Düsseldorf 0-0 Karlsruhe

The game end goalless as both sides depart with a point. This was a match lacking in goalmouth action and, while Düsseldorf were increasingly dangerous as the game progressed, they were constantly thwarted by their opponents, who have now not conceded in over six hours of football.

Karlsruhe, though, are standing firm and are hardly allowing anything through.

Clean sheet run continues

Including the Cup, Karlsruhe have now gone more than six hours without conceding a goal. Christoph Kobald is a key factor, being strong in tackles today (78% success rate, even 100% in aerial duels).
87'

What's still possible?

The match has calmed down a bit after Fortuna's good spell, and there isn't much time left to find a winner.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Fortuna have had the slightly better chances in this one.

No way through

The next Düsseldorf long-range shot is blocked by the Karlsruhe defence, who are throwing themselves in front of everything.
79'

Next substitution

Heyer replaces Lunddal, who provided the best moment of the first half.
camera-photo

If anyone, then Wanitzek

Wanitzek has had three of his side's four shots in this half. He is the likeliest to find the back of the net, you would think.
76'

Counter-attack opportunity

Wanitzek tests Kastenmeier once again, but he doesn't have any major problems. The match is now much more open!
75'

Förster's comeback

His last appearance in a Karlsruhe shirt was as a 15-year-old for the youth team.
74'

Double substitution

Now Karlsruhe are bringing on fresh legs - they have been struggling a bit in the last few minutes.
71'

Strong save!

El Azzouzi gets a powerful shot off from outside the box, but Bernat reacts brilliantly and tips the ball over the crossbar.
71'

Fortuna's dream duo

That was a brilliant ball from Muslija to Appelkamp. The two are working together splendidly given it's only their third start together including cup matches - they've already set each other up for three goals. Will they do it again today?

Good ball!

Appelkamp works himself an opening in the box from a long diagonal ball, but he can't beat Bernat with his header.

66'

First save

Kastenmeier saves an attempt from Wanitzek - that was the first shot on target in this match.
65'

Cheeky

Wanitzek cuts in from the left and tries to chip the ball over the keeper into the far corner, but Kastenmeier has it covered.
65'

Tight

Defensively, both teams are solid and difficult to break down.
62'

Better start

Düsseldorf look more alert in the second half and are winning the ball back much quicker.

Ball Recovery Time

info-small
Ball Recovery Time
Ball Recovery Time gives the time in seconds in which it takes a team to win back the ball following a loss of possession. It also allows conclusions to be drawn about a team's style of play. Only time when the ball is in play is counted (i.e. no breaks in play such as for goal-kicks, throw-ins etc).

Too harmless

Because the home side are now pressing higher up the pitch, the guests also have a bit more space in transition. Wanitzek's shot from outside the box is only half-hearted, though.

Fortuna coming forward

The opening minutes after the restart belong to Düsseldorf, who now have more depth and are clearly looking more actively for solutions in attack.
48'

More attack-minded?

Düsseldorf are now playing with two recognised strikers - a clear signal from Thioune.
47'

Debutant Celar

It's a first Bundesliga 2 appearance for the new signing, who was sidelined with injury for a long time last term and only had two competitive outings. The Slovenian last scored nine months ago.

On we go!

The second half begins with two Fortuna substitutions: new signing Celar and Alexandropoulos are now on the pitch.

Half-time: Düsseldorf 0-0 Karlsruhe

Lunddal's shot is initially blocked by Rapp, then El Azzouzi throws everything at his effort and blasts the ball high over the Karlsruhe goal.
40'

Little Space

Both teams simply cannot break through. Including the cup, the KSC defence has now gone over five hours without conceding a goal.

Busy Egloff

Egloff has contested twice as many duels as any other player in these first 36 minutes.

Muslija creating

Muslija has been Düsseldorf's best player so far, and this time he breaks through midfield well before laying it off to Appelkamp on the right, who immediately shoots, but misses the target.

Not a lot of chances, but plenty of intensity so far.

Three KSC academy products in Fortuna's starting eleven

With Zimmermann, Muslija and Rossmann, three of Karlsruhe's academy products are starting today, although all of them are playing for Düsseldorf! KSC don't have any of their own academy graduates starting tonight.

New options for Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf's new striker Can Celar is in the squad for the first time. The Slovenian international was once top scorer in Switzerland and last played in the Championship for Queens Park Rangers.

New options for KSC

For the visitors, returnee Philipp Förster and Gladbach loanee Shio Fukuda are in the squad for the first time. The young Japanese striker made eleven Bundesliga appearances (one goal) for the Foals, but mostly played for the second team in the regional league. Förster came through KSC's youth academy and is back after 15 years. He could make his first appearance for the first team today. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 83 Bundesliga and 110 second division appearances.

Fortuna's former Karlsruhe man starts

The hosts only make one change: Sotiris Alexandropoulos is on the bench for Fortuna for the first time, as Matthias Zimmermann starts in his place. "Zimbo" is a native of Karlsruhe, made his debut for KSC's professional team at 17 and played 50 second-division matches for the Baden side. Against his former club, he has never lost in Bundesliga 2 (nine wins, three draws).

KSC as expected

Christian Eichner would have liked to field the same starting eleven for the fourth time in four matches, but he has to make a change for the first time: Young talent Louey Ben Farhat is out injured, Fabian Schleusener takes his place in the team.

Fortuna strengthen their defence

Norwegian centre-back Jesper Daland has joined Düsseldorf on loan from Welsh club Cardiff City.

What Daniel Thioune says

"Fundamentally, I see in Karlsruhe a team that develops year after year. Karlsruhe is a great place to be able to play football."

What Christian Eichner says

"When evaluating their matches, you need to look a bit more closely. Fortuna is among the top contenders in the league. However, we're travelling to Düsseldorf with confidence - the team has earned that."

Coaching head-to-head

Daniel Thioune has never lost a managerial head-to-head against Christian Eichner (five wins and five draws with Düsseldorf, HSV and Osnabrück).
camera-photo

Zimmermann against his boyhood club

Matthias Zimmermann has an excellent record against his former club. The Karlsruhe native (50 second division appearances for KSC, debut at 17 years old) has achieved nine wins and three draws in 12 Bundesliga 2 matches against his youth club.
camera-photo

A long time coming

Karlsruhe's last success in this fixture was over nine years ago, when Hiroki Yamada scored for a 1-0 away victory in March 2016.

Impressive streak

Düsseldorf are unbeaten in their last 12 matches against Karlsruhe (eight wins, four draws).
