Scherhant misses the chance to take the lead!

Kenny reaches the byline on the right and whips in a sharp cross. Scherhant gets to the ball at the edge of the six-yard box but can't steer it towards goal - it flies several metres wide to the left.
75'

The pace slows down

It seems a bit as if both teams have resigned themselves to a draw. Is there still something left to play for?
72'

Gindorf!

The visiting striker is played in with a long ball on the left. He shoots with his right foot from the left side of the penalty area. Smarsch gets a touch, but the ball flies over him towards the goal. Leistner is there and clears it with his head!

Hertha controlling the game

The Berliners are the more active team in this second half; the visitors haven't produced much in attack so far. However, Hertha haven't created any clear-cut chances either.

Standing Ovation

Cautious visitors

The side from Lower Saxony are letting Hertha dictate play at the moment, adopting a wait-and-see approach and maintaining a relatively solid defensive structure.
51'

Niederlechner's acrobatic effort

Maza plays the ball into the penalty area towards Niederlechner. The pass is quite high, but the striker controls the ball with the outside of his right foot and shoots with his left while falling. The shot is deflected for a corner.

Half-time: Hertha Berlin 1-1 Hannover

Hertha have a bit more drive in their game today, but they were caught off guard by Hannover's quick start. Berlin pulled themselves together after falling behind, however, and repeatedly created opportunities through the lively Reese, whose leveller was fully deserved.

Using his head

That was Reese's first headed goal in a year. The speedy striker has only scored four times with his head in Bundesliga 2.

He scores and scores and scores

That was Reese's tenth goal in the last ten matches. Where could Hertha have finished if this game-changing player hadn't been injured for so long...

Record equalled

Reese has just scored his eleventh goal of the season. This equals his previous personal season record in Bundesliga 2, notched for Holstein Kiel two years ago. The big difference: back then he scored those goals across 33 appearances, while this season it's only 18!

Reese equalises!

Berlin's No.11 delivers again! Kenny has acres on the right and, at full clip, sends a cross into the area. Reese rises highest and heads the ball into the left corner to make it 1-1.

A bit of calm

Both teams are currently unable to penetrate into the danger area, but Hertha appear to be a touch more committed.
24'

High standards

Zieler is giving his defenders an earful: They're positioned a tad too high up the pitch, then they're not quick enough to react to Hertha's through-passes. The 2014 World Cup winner is not at all amused.
21'

Zieler saves

On the left, Reese dribbles almost to the byline and then plays the ball low and hard into the six-yard box. Zieler just manages to get his hand on the ball and deflects it to the left, denying Niederlechner a golden opportunity to score.
18'

Reese offside

The Hertha striker is played in behind the defence by Cuisance. Reese picks up pace and dribbles into the penalty area on the left. From ten metres out, he shoots low towards the near post, but the shot ends up in the side netting. Even if he had scored, it wouldn't have counted as he was flagged offside.
17'

Demme!

Reese sends the midfielder into the penalty area with the outside of his right foot. The Hertha playmaker shoots from close range, but Schuhen makes himself big and saves with his left foot.

The lead!

Kunze delicately lifts the ball from the right half-space into the penalty area, where an unmarked Tresoldi places a picture-perfect header into the bottom right corner.

Gindorf takes a shot

The forward has a bit too much space near the Berlin penalty area and tries a right-footed shot from 16 metres out. The ball is too central and doesn't pose any significant challenge for Smarsch.

Pressure from Hannover

Hannover are pressing Hertha early in their build-up play, causing significant disruption to the hosts. However, the visitors have not yet managed to win the ball in the attacking third - they are mainly provoking long balls.
Kick-off!

Reese stays!

The Berlin striker has just announced via microphone in the stadium that he has extended his contract with the Old Lady.

A record beckons

Niklas Hildebrandt is for the Berliners's senior squad for the first time today. The 16-year-old striker (turning 17 in July) is a Germany youth international and would become the youngest Hertha professional ever should he be subbed on.

Three changes

Knight (returning from yellow card suspension), Nielsen and Oudenne (fourth start this season) return to the starting XI for the visitors, while Lee, Momuluh and Dehm move to the bench.

Restructured defence

Captain Toni Leistner returns after a yellow-card suspension and plays in place of Andreas Bouchalakis. Linus Gechter is not in the squad today, with Michal Karbownik starting for the first time since the 4-0 loss to Elversberg in early March (Matchday 24).

Niederlechner's swansong

In his last match for Hertha, Florian Niederlechner replaces Derry Scherhant in the starting lineup. Niederlechner bids farewell to the capital after two and a half years, returning to his boyhood club 1860 Munich - just like his friend Kevin Volland from Union Berlin.

Hannover starting XI

Zieler - Knight, Halstenberg, Neumann - Muroya, Leopold, Kunze, Oudenne - Nielsen, Gindorf - Tresoldi

Hertha starting XI

Smarsch - Karbownik, Leistner, Dárdai - Kenny, Cuisance, Demme, Maza, Zeefuik - Reese, Niederlechner

Leitl's statement

"I had two and a half good years in Hannover, so I'm looking forward to seeing the team and staff. It will certainly be nice and also gives me the opportunity to say goodbye. I want to take that opportunity, but in the end, I also want to win with Hertha. We need to show our fans a good match."

Struggling in the capital

Over the course of 12 away matches in the second division against Hertha, Hannover have only managed one away victory, and that was almost 34 years ago.

Positive record

Last being defeated 3-1 away in the Bundesliga in May 2018, Hertha have lost only one of their last 10 competitive encounters with Hannover and are been unbeaten against the Lower Saxony in their last five games.

Points to be shared again?

Although there were no goals in the meeting earlier in the season, there were two sending-offs. Fabian Kunze received a second yellow card in the 57th minute, and Márton Dárdai also had to leave the pitch with a red card 32 minutes later. It was the fourth consecutive draw between Hertha and Hannover.
