Almost there
Everything is done and dusted here, the match is winding down. There are about five minutes left of regular time. Hamburg allow Magdeburg to play but intervene before it becomes dangerous.

It's not meant to be
Amaechi pulls off two lovely feints and finds himself in an ideal shooting position, but only hits the defender lying on the ground, resulting in a corner.
76'
Overslept the alarm
As in the first half, the home side start to play football too late. In the last few minutes, Amaechi has been causing quite a stir down the right wing, and Heuer Fernandes has to stretch once again to deal with a curling shot.
73'
Three substitutions
The double goalscorer makes way for the long-injured Pherai, while speedy winger Sahiti comes off for Mebude. Magdeburg also makes a change on the flank.

69'
Post!
Königsdörffer wants a hat-trick. He carries the ball almost half the length of the pitch on his own, barely troubled by the home side. From a tight angle, he smashes the ball against the post, from where it trickles out for a goal kick.

Dompé lets Amaechi run past him and then wrestles him to the ground with a bear hug. The free-kick from the right is cleared by Hamburg
64'
Winding down
After the third goal, the game seems to be pretty much over for both sides. Hamburg don't need to push anymore, and Magdeburg don't seem to have much left in the tank. However, there are still a good twenty minutes left in the match. The last attempt came from Dompé, but it nearly went under the stadium roof.

The response to the third goal is a deflected shot that Heuer Fernandes even has to run towards to meet. The hosts need a goal soon if they're to have any hope of getting a point from this match.

With his eleventh goal of the season, he continues to extend his new personal record.

Königsdörffer at the double!
Reis finds Königsdörffer through the middle and the attacker bursts forward. In the penalty area, he leaves Pfeiffer standing and calmly finishes into the near corner. That could be game, set and match.

Similar start
After the change of ends, Hamburg immediately press high up the pitch. Magdeburg's build-up play is stuttering.

We're back underway!
The ball is rolling again. There were several changes at half-time. Titz made three substitutions for the home side. Hmaburg also made a change, with Hefti coming on for the cautioned Mikelbrencis.

Königsdörffer lively again!
Reimann has to stretch to save one. Königsdörffer takes aims at the far corner but can't beat the 'keeper.
38'
Home improvement
It took a good half hour, but now the home side are growing into the game. They're keeping calm in build-up play and working their way into the final third more often.
34'
Signs of life
Magdeburg finally work a decent attack. Atik makes ground on the left and draws two opponents towards him, before finding Burcu on the opposite flank. The latter volleys the cross but only manages to shoot into Heuer Fernandes' arms with a bouncing effort.

Reimann saves!
Nice save by the Magdeburg 'keeper. Mikelbrencis takes a shot from distance, which dips and swerves, making it difficult for Reimann. But he parries away.
27'
Königsdörffer lively!
The goalscorer keeps drifting to the left to combine with Dompé. He does so again, before playing a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but no Hamburg player reaches it.
24'
Magdeburg MIA
They've been poor at home all season but, in the first half-hour here, Magdeburg have really struggled to get going. There's a long way to go, but they need to find a spark.
19'
Pressure remains high
Sahiti speeds down the right wing and lays it off to the edge of the box, where Königsdörffer tries to knock through to Karabec. However, the latter doesn't anticipate it, so the attack fizzles out. Nevertheless, a nice move.

A counter-attack rolls down the left flank via Dompé and Königsdörffer before the latter whips in a low cross. Mathisen smashes the ball into his own net while attempting to clear. Bitter blow.

Quick starters
Hamburg have scored inside the opening 15 minutes for the 16th time this season, more than any other side.

Hamburg take the lead!
The away side reward themselves for a bright start! Magdeburg build-up patiently, when Reis steals and counters. Königsdörffer leaves two Magdeburg players for dead, before unselfishly laying it off to Muheim, who passes back to the striker. Königsdörffer smashes it home just under the crossbar.
6'
Crossbar!
This time from the other side and more dangerous! Königsdörffer headsagainst the underside of the crossbar and thunders down without crossing the line. First really big chance Hamburg!
3'
First corner
Dompé whips it in towards the near post - no one there! Magdeburg clear the ball upfield.

Accuracy required
The first long ball is played to Kaars, but he doesn't come close to reaching it. Heuer Fernandes takes it on his chest.

Three changes
Mo El Hankouri was absent last week and will be out for a while longer, today Christian Titz also has to replace the suspended Daniel Heber and Lubambo Musonda. Jean Hugonet and Samuel Loric come into the team for them, and defensive leader Marcus Mathisen returns after his suspension, relegating Hamburg-born Patric Pfeiffer to the bench.
Glatzel returns
The big question for HSV was who would replace the suspended top scorer Davie Selke. The answer: Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer starts for the first time since Matchday 22. Robert Glatzel is back in the squad for the first time since early October, after 159 days, and is on the bench along with Otto Stange.

VBL: The Club Championship final is approaching!
Christian Titz's view on HSV
"It's an interesting match for both sides. The stage is well set. It's very important that we feel the unconditional support of our fans throughout the entire game; they will constantly drive us forward."
Merlin Polzin's view on Magdeburg
"Magdeburg are renowned for their possession game, they have a lot of depth in their play and get into dangerous areas. We will need very good defensive concentration against their variable attacking play, but we're not just going there to prevent something, we want to play our game and win the match."

Balanced record
There have been only seven previous encounters, all in Bundesliga 2, with a balanced record (three wins each, one draw). Magdeburg have celebrated more victories against Hamburg than any other team in Bundesliga 2 (also three against Braunschweig).
Glorious past
FCM versus HSV, that's a lot of tradition on the Elbe and a glorious past: Hamburg have been German champions six times and DFB Cup winners three times, while Magdeburg won three league titles and seven cup victories in the former East Germany. Both were also European competition winners.
