Hamburg respond. Jatta presses strongly, but his pass into space doesn't work out. Instead, the counter-attack runs through Lidberg, Darmstadt's strongest player, and in the end, Schonlau blocks Corredor's shot with his chest.

The equaliser from the visitors, who continue to dominate possession, is definitely not undeserved. Also because the counter-pressing from Kohfeldt's team continues to work very well.

Schonlau stays on the ground afterward the goal, but the leveller stands.

The difference from the Karlsruhe match will be that this weekend the entire stadium - except for the away section - will be behind us and supporting us. I'm really looking forward to that!"

Stefan Kuntz has confirmed that former assistant coach Merlin Polzin will remain as head coach of HSV at least until the winter break. "This is a result of the good work in recent days and weeks," said the chief executive.

"We are focusing on a very challenging second division match against a very tough opponent. We are well prepared for the game, but we are still wary of an opponent with a lot of individual quality. Overall, I'm looking forward to an exciting match."

Darmstadt man Fabian Nürnberger is a Hamburg native who played for HSV in his youth career.

Before his move to HSV in 2019, Daniel Heuer Fernandes played three seasons for Darmstadt, making seven Bundesliga appearances and 62 Bundesliga 2 appearances for the Lilies.

Darmstadt have gone unbeaten in their last seven away matches at the Volkspark (five wins, two draws). In the Bundesliga 2, the Lilies have never lost away to HSV (three wins, two draws).

Of the 20 competitive matches against HSV (eight in the Bundesliga, ten in the Bundesliga 2 and two in the DFB Cup), Darmstadt have won five. All five of these victories were celebrated away from home.

In the last 16 competitive matches between Darmstadt and HSV, the home side has never won! The last home victory in this fixture dates all the way back to 1981, when Hamburg defeated Darmstadt 6-1 in the Bundesliga (goalscorers including Felix Magath and Horst Hrubesch). They then went on to become German champions at the end of that 1981/82 season under Ernst Happel.
