Full time: Augsburg 1-0 Heidenheim

It’s a third straight win for an in-form Augsburg side, who pull four points clear of Heidenheim as they firmly cement their place in mid-table. It was a battle against Heidenheim but ultimately Jeffrey Gouweleeuw's strike proved enough for the Bavarians.

Half-time: Augsburg 1-0 Heidenheim

The hosts began with the confidence of a side that won 6-0 last weekend and have dominated a game of few chances. Jan-Niklas Beste went close for Heidenheim with an arrowed shot but it's Jeffrey Gouweleeuw's goal that's the difference at the break.

Augsburg lead!

It's a striker's finish as Gouweleeuw pops up completely unmarked at the back post following a corner from the right. He takes it on the half-volley, expertly guiding the ball in first time with his left foot.

Late European charge anyone?

Augsburg are just a point ahead of Heidenheim going into Matchday 25 and victory for either team here could take them as high as eighth. That would very much put them in the European race, with a potential seven spots up for grabs in the Bundesliga this season.

Schmidt on Augsburg

Heidenheim head coach Frank Schmidt said in his pre-match press conference: "They play very intense football, run a lot and immediately counter-press after losing the ball. With Demirović and Tietz they have two players up front who together have scored half of the goals for Augsburg. Above all, Demirović is physically very present, technically good and looks for a quick finish. In addition, Vargas, who is very variable and fast, acts behind the two leaders. They also act flexibly from the center and the full-backs push forward during their own attacks. We have prepared well for the opponent and want to be as error-free as possible tomorrow."

Thorup on Heidenheim

The Augsburg coach said of his opponents in his pre-match press conference: "Heidenheim have had an outstanding season as a newly-promoted side so far and they are especially dangerous from set pieces and in transition – we need to be ready for that... we want to get our third consecutive win!”

Safety in sight

Augsburg would move onto 32 points with a win. No team with such a tally after 25 games has ever been relegated from the Bundesliga.
