Full-time: Hoffenheim 3-0 Freiburg

It's derby delight for Hoffenheim, who leave the field as 3-0 winners. Christian Ilzer's men flew out of the gates after the restart, surging to a two-goal lead five minutes after the restart, thanks to goals from Asllani and Kabak. Freiburg tried to fight back, but they couldn't manage to break the hosts down in any meaningful way, before Gendrey sealed the win with a third goal in stoppage time.

Instant impact from the sub!

What a way to announce your arrival onto the pitch! Bebou's shot from the edge of the box is deflected. Prass retrieves the loose ball before teeing up Gendrey on the edge of the box, who smashes home with only his second touch since after coming on.

Venomous volley

Following a Freiburg free-kick, Jung latches onto a loose ball at the far post, firing a vicious volley goalwards from a tight angle. It's really travelling as it flashes across the face of goal.
81'

And again!

It seems it simply isn't Kramarić's day today. A good Hoffenheim move is worked towards the Croatian, who shoots from outside the box. However, ahead of him, Moerstedt tries to get out of the way but ends up blocking the effort from an offside position.
76'

Miscommunication

Coufal delivers a low cross into the box from the right flank. It's aimed towards Kramarić, who gears up to shoot, but Moerstedt also tries to stab it goalwards. In the end, the teammates get in each others' way and the chance goes begging. That could've been 3-0...

Changes for both sides

Both managers elect to make attacking substitutions with less than 20 minutes left on the clock. Moerstedt and Prass enter the fray for Hoffeheim, whilst Grifo bolsters the Freiburg attack.
71'

Well worked

Ogbus and Treu combine excellently down the right flank. The latter cuts it back to Eggestein, whose effort from the right side of the box is deflected behind by Kabak.
67'

Great save from Atubolu

The ball works its way through Kabak, Baumann, and Toure before reaching Asllani, who lets fly from outside the box with his right foot. Atubolu produces a great save to keep out the goalscorer's attempt and deny him a second.
66'

Just wide

Treu combines well with Scherhant down the right flank. Short of options, the full-back elects to shoot, aiming a drilled effort towards the bottom left corner, which flashes narrowly wide.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The xG values indicate that Hoffenheim are fully deserving of their advantage here.

Composure from Baumann

Hoffenheim's keeper was ice cool playing out from the back under pressure from Matanović.

Double change

Rosenfelder is unable to continue a little over 10 minutes after coming on. He is replaced by Jung. Matanović also comes on in place of Suzuki.

Tempers flare

The game boils over after Toure was judged to have fouled Rosenfelder when he was through on goal and there are yellow cards shown to players on both sides. Rosenfelder has stayed down, however.

Kabak doubles Hoffenheim's advantage!

Hoffenheim have turned it on in the second half here. Coufal whips a cross in towards the near post from the left. Kabak makes a smart run to meet it with his head, before squeezing the ball past Atubolu at the near post.

Could've been 2-0!

Kramarić combines well with the goalscorer Asllani, who picks out Burger in the middle of the Freiburg box. It looks as if the midfielder is free to pick his spot, but Osterhage throws himself in front of the effort and does just enough to put him off. Huge chance for Hoffenheim.
camera-photo

What a restart! Hoffenheim lead!

That didn't take long. Kramarić plays a pass to Coufal on the right flank. The full-back then delivers a precise cross into the the box where Asllani rises to meet it with a header, directing the ball past Atubolu and into the far corner to give Hoffenheim the lead early on in the second half.

Back underway!

Freiburg get the ball rolling for the second half here. There is one change for the visitors at the break: Rosenfelder replaces Irié.

Half-time: Hoffenheim 0-0 Freiburg

There's nothing to separate these sides at the interval of this Baden-Württemberg derby. Hoffenheim have had the majority of the chances and thought they had taken the lead early on through a Kramarić stunner which was chalked off for offside. To Freiburg's credit, the Black Forest outfit have defended very compactly. Will either side produce that bit of magic to break the deadlock in the second half here?

How did that stay out?

Coufal whips in a cross from the left. Kabak meets it with a header, but Atubolu is equal to the task and makes the save. However, Hranáč pounces on the rebound, unleashing a left-footed shot from nine yards out in a central position. His powerful effort crashes against the crossbar, rattling the woodwork. Atubolu didn't know too much about that one.

Asllani has a go

Hajdari, Avdullahu, and Burger combine to set up Asllani, but his shot from the left side of the box flies high and wide of the mark.

Freiburg staying compact

Toure finds Hajdari on the edge of the box, who then tees up Kabak. The defender tries his luck from outside the box, but Höler blocks.

War of attrition

Clear cut chances have been at a premium so far. Much of the action has taken place in the middle of the park.

Up the other end

Scherhant and Höler combine to set up Suzuki. The Japanese international has options left and right but opts to go it alone. However, his powerful, low effort whizzes wide to the left of the goal.
12'

Shot blocked

Burger, Hajdari, and Prömel combine to set up Coufal from the edge of the box, but his shot is blocked by Günter, sending it behind for a Hoffenheim corner.

Goal of the season contender ruled out!

Kramarić thought he had opened the scoring for Hoffenheim with an absolute worldie there! Asllani threaded the ball through to the Croatian, who unleashed a right-footed strike from around 40 yards. Against the odds, with an xG of just 0.03, the long-range effort beats the keeper. However, following a VAR review, it is scrubbed off for offside.
