Benjamin Hoffmann on facing Gladbach

Speaking at the pre-match press conference after taking over from Henriksen on an interim basis, Hoffmann said: "The priority right now is to give the lads a bit of self-confidence and clear their minds. We'll have a lot of conversations and training to do just that. What they managed to achieve last season was not all that long ago. We’ll make sure they’re reminded of that. Playing with a sense of freedom is the main thing."

Eugen Polanski on facing Mainz

"We were a little surprised by the late nature of the change of coach, but we'll just focus on our strengths. We'd already analysed the opponent, so the whole thing doesn't really impact us. Benni Hoffmann played a similar system in the reserves and now has just two days to discuss things with the team. We don't expect much to change with Mainz."

Streak over

Gladbach's five-match unbeaten run in all competitions was ended in the DFB Cup last 16 on Tuesday. The Foals went down 2-1 at home to Bundesliga rivals St. Pauli, in what was Polanski's fourth defeat in 11 competitive matches as either interim or first-team head coach.

Henriksen dismissed

Mainz relieved Bo Henriksen of his duties as head coach with immediate effect on Wednesday. An official statement on the Mainz website confirmed that club leadership and the Danish tactician had "mutually agreed to end their working relationship". U23s coach Benjamin Hoffmann will replace Henriksen on an interim basis.

Mainz's downward trend

Mainz are bottom of the Bundesliga for the first time in two years, following what's been their joint-worst-ever start to a top-flight season after 12 games (W1, D3, L8).
