Müller suffers concussion

Heidenheim have announced that goalkeeper Kevin Müller suffered a concussion after colliding with Bochum's Ibrahima Sissoko during Friday night's encounter and that the 34-year-old will be sidelined for an unspecified period. "[We] would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to the medical staff at the Voith Arena yesterday, as well as to the staff at the Heidenheim Hospital, for their care and treatment," a club statement read, adding, "The entire FCH family wishes Kevin Müller all the best and a speedy recovery!"

Dieter Hecking extends

Bochum's coach has decided to stay on at the helm of the club regardless of the team's Bundesliga fate this season, the 60-year-old penning terms on a new deal that runs until 2027. "I've always emphasised how comfortable I feel at VfL and that I could certainly imagine managing this great club even if we're relegated, if the conditions were right," the tactician said following Bochum's draw with Heidenheim.

Full-time: Heidenheim 0-0 Bochum

Bochum live to fight another day, but their prospects of staying up aren't looking too rosy with two games to go. They're four points adrift of the relegation play-off spot occupied by Heidenheim, following a combative contest marred by a serious injury to Kevin Müller. Our thoughts are, of course, with the Heidenheim goalkeeper.

Stinger!

Médic with a rocket, but it's a comfortable height for Feller, who bats it to safety.

What a save!

Horn keeps Bochum in the Bundeliga, for now at least, with a sprawling stop to tip Beck's curler onto the woodwork and behind. Traoré then has a long-range shot blocked...

Saved!

A lovely passing move ends with Julian Niehues sweeping a shot into the arms of the diving Horn from the edge of the Bochum area. Hecking responds by making two attack-minded changes, with the space beginning to open up at both ends of the pitch...

Boa-don't!

Boadu shows a great first touch to control a dinked ball into the Heidenheim area. Feller's quick to narrow the angle, though, and the Bochum forward sends his eventual chipped attempt off target.

Asking questions

Busch makes a timely sliding clearance to stop a long ball from finding a Bochum shirt at the back post. The visitors come again as Bernardo has a shot charged down, with Broschinski launching the rebound into Row M.

Subs o'clock

Two for Bochum, three for Heidenheim and all very positive. Now's the time for a hero...
78'

Denied!

Heidenheim are getting closer as Conteh feed Beck in the area, only for Oermann to slide in and put the ball into touch. That was nearly a free sight of Horn's goal.
75'

Almost!

Mainka heads Beck's corner back across goal for Schöppner. He could go for goal, but elects to try and find a teammate and the chance is gone.
70'

Speculative

Pieringer fashions space for a shot from 25 yards, but he can't find the target.
65'

Woodwork!

Passlack sends Masoura into the penalty area. He pulls a cross back to Boadu, who sticks out a boot and turns the ball against the foot of the near post. That was Bochum's best chance by a mile.
60'

Play to resume

Müller is stretchered off after being treated in the Heidenheim goalmouth for almost 10 minutes. Frank Feller is his replacement.
53'

Treatment ongoing

A large sheet is being held up as the medical team attend to the injured Müller. Both sets of fans are chanting the Heidenheim goalkeeper's name, some in tears.
50'

Stoppage

Müller stays down after colliding with Sissoko as he attempted to punch clear a cross. This looks serious.
46'

Up and running again

No changes at the break, but Schmidt was in deep conversation with his substitutes before the whistle sounded. He'll be hoping for some more super-sub heroics after Honsak's winner from the bench against Stuttgart a week ago.

A tense first half lacking any real spark draws to a close at the Voith-Arena. Bochum are not down yet, but a draw does their survival bid little favours.

Close!

Krätzig's free-kick finds the head of Mainka, who sends a towering downward header just past the far post. Horn looked fairly confident it was going wide, mind.

Tactical foul

Masouras is the first player into the book after losing possession and pulling down Beck. The Greek knew the break was on.

On a knife edge

As things stand, Heidenheim still occupy the play-off spot, with four points between them and both the automatic drop zone and outright safety. Bochum are four points further back at the foot of the table.
37'

Nobody home!

Traoré whips an inviting ball into the area, but it evades everyone in red and blue. Heidenheim are suddenly playing with far greater urgency...
36'

Warning shot

Bochum work the ball up to Boadu, who gets off a shot that forces Müller into an easy diving save.
35'

Denied!

Horn races out to prevent Busch from getting to Conteh's defence-splitting pass. The Bochum keeper can't keep hold of it, but is able to gather at the second attempt.
32'

Best chance yet!

Masouras does really well to keep a seemingly lost cause alive by hooking a bouncing ball back from the by-line and into the penalty area. Boadu tries to get his right foot round it, but can only send his attempt into the ground and over. Awkward one.

Nice move, no end product

Beck turns into space on halfway before shifting a pass inside for Siersleben. He helps it onto Scienza, but his cross is straight down the throat of the goalkeeper.

Teaser!

Masouras shifts away from his marker in the Heidenheim area, but his ensuing cross has just too much on it for Boadu in the six-yard box. Let-off for Heidenheim!

Frantic

Scienza glides in off the left-hand side, before firing a speculative effort into a visiting shirt. Bochum look to break, but the move is stopped in its tracks in the Heidenheim half.

The Bochum striker has been clutching at his chest ever since that earlier collision with Pieringer. He struggles off, with Myron Boadu on.

Teams out

Heidenheim are in red and blue; Bochum in their change pale blue number. Kick-off is imminent...

Sea of red and blue

The home fans are in fine voice, scarves aloft. They know today's result could make or break their survival bid.

Time to buck the trend?

Heidenheim are winless in their last three home meetings with Bochum, but took a point here in a goalless draw last season. However, they've never beaten the Ruhr club in the Bundesliga (D2, L1).

Meagre returns

Heidenheim (10 points) and Bochum (eight points) are this season's respective worst home and away teams. It's no wonder they're both fighting to stay above water...

Bochum back on the precipice

Bochum were put through the wringer last season after slipping from outright safety to 16th on the final day. They then lost the play-off first leg 3-0 to Fortuna Düsseldorf, only to roar back and secure their top-flight status on penalties. This time round, the play-off is their only hope of skipping the trap door - but they have to get a result today. Defeat will send them down with two games to go.

More on that Heidenheim team

Just the one change from Schmidt as Leo Scienza replaces suspended midfielder Niklas Dorsch. Last week's match-winning hero Mathias Honsak begins on the bench once more.

More on that Bochum team

Head coach Dieter Hecking has made four changes following last week's 1-1 draw with Union Berlin. Ordets, Passlack, Masouras and Sissoko all start, with Medić, Boadu and Broschinski dropping to the bench, while Gamboa is not included in the squad.

In the build-up to their team's all-or-nothing trip to Heidenheim today, the club's supporters turned out in incredible numbers to give the players a boost in their bid to avoid relegation.

Dieter Hecking on facing Heidenheim

"Tomorrow will, of course, be a battle, an intense duel. The question will be who makes fewer mistakes and how well they can exploit our opponent's mistakes."

Frank Schmidt on facing Bochum

"Bochum are constantly making adjustments in terms of personnel and tactics. But these are all things we can't influence. I have a lot of respect for Dieter Hecking; he's the most experienced coach in the Bundesliga. But he can't pull out a magic wand and change everything. That's why Bochum will continue to put importance on tackling and second balls, just like in the reverse fixture."

Watch: Three-way relegtion tussle reaching fever pitch

Three games left, three teams, two automatic relegation spots and one lifeline via the play-offs. Who will stay up?

There's hope

Heidenheim sit in the relegation playoff place at the moment, five points from safety and three ahead of Kiel. In their last ten games, Frank Schmidt's men have won three, drawn two and lost five, giving them a chance of survival.

Bad timing

Since their shock victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, Dieter Hecking's side have struggled to pick up results, and missed the chance to build on any positive momentum. Since that game, they have lost five and drawn one, meaning they stay rooted to the bottom of the table and four points behind Heidenheim.

Previous meetings

This will be the nineteenth meeting between the two teams, with Bochum having dominated their previous encounters. From 18 games, the visitors have lost just four times, winning 10 and drawing the remaining four.

MD32 stakes

It's a huge one for both teams. Bochum will be the first team relegated in the 2024/25 Bundesliga season if they lose. Heidenheim could potentially drop from the play-off spot into the bottom two if they lose and Kiel win, depending on goal difference.
