Full-time: Bremen 1-0 Bochum

A game that sparked into life in the final 10 minutes as Weiser poked home to give the hosts the lead. The goal was initially given offside, but after a review, it was given. Immediately after the goal, things went from bad to worse for Bochum as Sissoko picked up his second yellow card for fighting and he was sent for an early bath. Try as they might, Bochum couldn't find a leveller and it is the hosts who come away with all three points. The possibility of European football next season is looking more and more likely with every week.

Big opportunity to seal it

That was a massive chance. Bremen have space to counter through Njinmah, but the hosts squander it. Eventually, the ball does get through to Bittencourt, but his shot is simple for Horn.

And now Bochum are down to 10

What a wild few minutes! Mašović earns himself a yellow card for a high foot and then everything kicks off. Sissoko is right in the thick of it and he picks up a second yellow card for his actions. Not what Bochum needed.

The goal is given, Bremen lead

What a strange goal that was. Bremen come forward down the left and put in a cross. Wittek ends up on the deck whilst defending before Njinmah picks up the loose ball and finds Weiser, who pokes home. Weiser was only onside because Wittek was lying on the ground. Very odd.

Bremen on top

The hosts are starting to liven up. Justin Njinmah whips in a low cross that Horn fails to deal with. Luckily for him, Bernardo is on hand to clear the loose ball away.

Half-time: Bremen 0-0 Bochum

It's been a bit of a slow burner this one. Both sides have struggled to create any clear-cut chances. Ducksch had arguably the best chance after a mistake from Bernardo early on, but generally, the game has been characterised by the midfield battle. Bochum have been narrowly the better side, but the visitors haven't been able to create an awful lot either. Both sides will need to put on their shooting boots for the second half if either side wants to take all three points today.

Chaos in the box

Bochum continue their push for an opener by sending the ball into the box and causing chaos. Hofmann then attempts to bulldoze his way through to goal, but eventually Zetterer pounces on the loose ball. That could have easily ended up at Hofmann's or Sissoko's feet for a chance.

Good football

After three wins on the bounce for Werder, Ole Werner is fielding the same starting eleven for the fourth time in a row today. Ole Werner on facing Bochum

"We face a completely different task than in recent weeks. Both in terms of the style of play and the approach of our opponents. Recently, we've all faced teams that pursued a very playful approach and wanted to carry the ball forward with lots of flat passes. Now we're facing a team that will put us under extreme pressure, that will try to play lots of long balls and that wants to provoke a restless game. It will be a lot about second balls and set pieces."
camera-photo

Dieter Hecking on Bochum's aims

"We want to finish this season on a positive note. The playoff spot is our realistic goal. We've been lacking points lately, that's clear. Nevertheless, there's still a positive, relaxed atmosphere; the team is at peace with itself."

Watch: Oliver Burke, Bremen's last-minute specialist

Having scored five of his seven Bundesliga goals in the 89th minute or later, will in-form Oliver Burke do the business for Bremen again on Matchday 30?

Definite underdogs

Bochum have recently suffered four Bundesliga defeats in a row, scoring in only one of their last six games (a 3-2 win at Bayern). The Ruhr club are also one of Werder's favourite opponents: only Schalke (46) have been beaten more times by Bremen than Bochum have (45). Werder also have their record best goal difference against the Ruhr club (+76).
camera-photo

The league's form team

Werder are the only team in the division to have celebrated three wins in their last three Bundesliga games. There's every reason to believe it can continue too, as Bremen's next two games are at home against relegation candidates Bochum and St. Pauli. Ole Werner's team can also already boast a better points tally this campaign than they could over the entirety of the 2023/24 season.
