Full-time: St. Pauli 0-2 Dortmund

Dortmund were a completely different side after the restart, reentering the fray with increased attacking intent. Guirassy opened the scoring just after 50 minutes, latching onto an Adeyemi assist to finish from close range, before some superb individual work from Adeyemi culminated in Dortmund's second just seven minutes later. The hosts worked tirelessly throughout but they couldn't find a response - the visitors were simply too assured for them in the second half.

Goal disallowed

Groß fires in a set-piece from the byline. Beier flicks it onto Guirassy, who stabs the ball home for what looked like his second of the afternoon, but the assistant had his flag raised - Beier was offside.

Adeyemi delighted

The winger assisted Guirassy for the first, before getting on the scoresheet himself to make it two for Dortmund.

Changes

For Dortmund, a double change sees Svensson and Chukwuemeka replace Bensebaini and Reyna. Likewise St. Pauli make a swap, bringing on Ceesay for Eggestein. With 15 minutes left to play, can these substitutions affect the game's outcome?

Could've been three!

A golden opportunity for Dortmund. Beier is sent into the Pauli box by Groß. He cuts it back to Guirassy, who scuffs his attempt. The ball then drops to Adeyemi on his favoured left side, but his whipped effort is fired over the bar.

Bizarre

A mishit Smith cross balloons up into the air. It's set to go behind for a goal-kick, but Kobel comes to punch it behind for a corner, under no pressure. It's taken short before being whipped into Eggestein, who very nearly beats Kobel to the ball, but the assistant referee had his flag raised for offside.

Guirassy celebrates

Dortmund's No. 9 was on target once again to open the scoring for his side.

Individual brilliance from Adeyemi!

Beier clears a St. Pauli set-piece up to Adeyemi, who's the only man forward for Dortmund. The winger pressurises Treu, forcing the Pauli man into a mistake, upon which Adeyemi pounces. Running from the halfway line into the Pauli box, he cuts back to take Smith out of the game before slotting home from close range. 2-0!

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The xG values suggest that Dortmund are good value for their lead. The Black-Yellows have shown significantly more attacking impetus since the restart.

Guirassy breaks the deadlock!

Who else for Dortmund? A high ball into the box is brought down by Adeyemi, who spins his marker. He plays it into the path of Guirassy in the six-yard box, who rides a challenge before managing to poke it home from close range. Clinical from Dortmund's No. 9.

Sustaining pressure

Dortmund have enjoyed most of the ball since the restart. Adeyemi was played through into the Pauli box before going down. The referee dismisses the penalty shouts but Guirassy plays on, though Dortmund don't manage to get a shot off.

Back underway!

St. Pauli have got the ball rolling again for the second half at the Millerntor-Stadion. Both sides remain unchanged.

Half-time: St. Pauli 0-0 Dortmund

There's nothing to separate these sides as they head in at the break all-square. Pauli have had the better of the chances, with on-loan Weißhaupt causing all sorts of trouble for the visitors down the right. The hosts have won the majority of the second balls and have made life difficult for Dortmund, though Adeyemi had a great chance to take the lead just before the whistle went for the half.

Flashed across goal

BVB fashion a golden chance at the end of the half. Adeyemi is sent in behind the St. Pauli defence. His right-footed effort beats Vasilj, but flies narrowly wide across the face of goal.
42'

Five versus four

Dortmund break very quickly and have a man advantage in the attack. Sabitzer plays a cross towards Beier at the far post, but Treu does really well to backpeddle and head it behind for a corner, which Dortmund can't make anything of.

Just wide!

Another corner

Smith's cross from a free-kick after Weißhaupt was fouled is headed behind for a corner. It's taken short but Dortmund anticipate it, winning it back and looking to counter, but it's too frantic and the chance breaks down.
26'

Pauli applying pressure

Ritzka lashes a cross into the Dortmund box from the left, looking for the run of Weißhaupt on the edge of the six yard box. A goal looked near-certain, but Bensebaini does fantastically to come across and get there ahead of the Pauli winger.

Physical contest

Both sides have struggled somewhat to create clear-cut chances. The midfield skirmish is frought with physical duels and play is repeatedly breaking down in the middle third.

BVB nearly pounce

St. Pauli give it away at the back. Adeyemi gathers the loose ball and plays Sabitzer through to the byline. The Austrian digs a cross out to Guirassy at the far post, who heads back across goal but, after some pinball in the box, the hosts manage to clear.
9'

Great chance

Adeyemi finds himself in space on the right of the St. Pauli box. The winger delays hitting the early shot, allowing for the home defenders to get across. Ultimately, his shot from under pressure is wide.
7'

Just over!

Weißhaupt beats Bensebaini down the right before whipping a cross into Saad. The Tunisian connects with the header, but it's just over the crossbar.
6'

First corner

Saad looks dangerous as he dribbles into the box before it comes to Treu, whose cross is blocked behind for the first corner of the game. The set-piece doesn't trouble the visitors, who get it away.
4'

Flooding forward

St. Pauli get their first chance to attack and commit men forward. Weißhaupt does well to get to the byline before cutting a cross back into the box, but Dortmund get it clear.

Early pressure

Dortmund are instantly on the front foot here. Pauli keeper Vasilj is put under pressure, forcing him to kick it out for a throw-in. They're pressing well here.

Niko Kovač's view on St. Pauli

"St Pauli don't score many goals, but with a goal difference of 18 for and just 27 against, they also give very little away. We'll have to do a lot just to create chances. They defend in a very compact formation where everyone puts themselves at the service of the team."
camera-photo

Alexander Blessin's view on Dortmund

"Dortmund had some problems, but then beat Union 6-0. We'll do our analysis of that game to see what's what. We know they're strong in the transition with the pace they have. Up front, they have a target man in Serhou Guirassy who holds the ball up well. We have to be wide awake for the full game. We want to unsettle them."
