Full-time: Freiburg 1-4 Leipzig

Freiburg just couldn't handle the Lois Openda show and Marco Rose will be delighted. There's still room for Streich to snatch a European finish in his final season, and the good thing is they won't face many better performances than that one from Leipzig, who temporarily move back ahead of Dortmund and into the top four.

We're underway

It's kick-off in Freiburg for this clash of European hopefuls.

European football at stake

A 0-0 draw last time out against relegation strugglers Mainz for Rose's men gave Dortmund an unexpected top four advantage, particularly considering they followed up with a first win away to Bayer in 10 years. Now three points back, a win for Leipzig would be huge, especially with BVB facing another tough task in Stuttgart. Freiburg, meanwhile, are looking for another European finish in Streich's final season, and could go three points off sixth with a win.

Rose shakes things up

The big news comes from Marco Rose, who makes two changes from the 0-0 draw against Mainz and brings back Benjamin Šeško and Amadou Haidara, with Kevin Kampl and Christoph Baumgartner dropping to the bench. Christian Streich, meanwhile, keeps the same XI from a statement 3-0 win over Gladbach last time out.

Freiburg starting XI

Atubolu - Kübler, Keitel, Gulde - Dōan, Eggestein, Höfler, Günter (c) – Röhl, Höler - Gregoritsch

Freiburg subs

Müller, Makengo, Szalai, Sildillia, Muslija, Grifo, Sallai, Adamu, Philipp

Leipzig starting XI

Gulácsi - Henrichs, Orban (c), Lukeba, Raum - Olmo, Haidara, Schlager, Xavi - Openda, Šeško

Leipzig subs

Blaswich, Lenz, Klostermann, Simakan, Bitshiabu, Seiwald, Kampl, Baumgartner, Elmas

Rose on Freiburg

"Christian [Streich] is unique, a legend who has helped shape the Bundesliga for many years. The Christian-SC Freiburg mix was excellent. He will be missed in the Bundesliga. I’m looking forward to seeing him again on Saturday. I packed a bottle of wine for him to enjoy when he has a bit more free time."

Streich on Leipzig

“We played really well there and only lost the game from a penalty. However, if we play like we did in Leipzig and at home to Leverkusen [on Matchday 26], then we could have a really good game. We’re highly motivated.”

Streich's auf Wiedersehen

The moment Freiburg and Bundesliga fans shed a tear. When Christian Streich announced his impending departure at the end of the season.

Top 5 farewell

Interestingly, the Leipzig game will mark the last time Freiburg face a team currently in the top five this season. After RBL's visit, Streich's side will only face sides in the bottom half of the table in the remainder of the campaign.

Leipzig's tasty trio

Xavi, Openda and Olmo have been captivating fans across the globe with their exploits in the Bundesliga this season, which is reason enough to take another look at what makes the triumvirate so special.

Pressure rising

Marco Rose's men won three on the bounce before last weekend's scoreless draw against Mainz led to points dropped in the search for a Champions League place. Borussia Dortmund took advantage to stretch their lead in fourth spot to three points over their Saxony-based rivals, who are now under pressure to respond this weekend.

Streich farewell-tour continues

Freiburg's iconic coach Christian Streich recently announced he'll soon be ending his time in the managerial hot seat after 12-and-a-half years in charge. The latest round of the Streich-farewell show took in the team's biggest win of the season against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 27.

Coming up together

Freiburg and Leipzig were both promoted to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2016 and have remained in the top flight ever since. The team from the Black Forest may have come up as champions of the second division back then, but Leipzig have since notched up 128 more points than Freiburg in the Bundesliga since.
