Full-time: Stuttgart 1-1 Leverkusen

Neither team could deliver a knockout blow as the spoils are shared. Serhou Guirassy and Exequiel Palacios both scored from the penalty spot, but the point does little to push either side closer to their end-of-season goals.

Diaby misses the target

An opening for Diaby down the other end, but he skews his shot wide. We have come to expect better from his!

What a miss!

From a few yards, Vagnoman heads wide of the post with the goal at his mercy - how crucial could that miss be?

Leverkusen level things up!

Bredlow clatters Tapsoba and, after a trip to the pitchside monitor, Willenborg points to the spot again. No Panenka from Palacios, but he still finds the bottom corner with aplomb. 1-1!

Silas threatening

If anyone is going to produce something special, the DR Congo international looks the most likely. He has been lively down the left flank so far.

Alonso drops Wirtz

Alonso, meanwhile, introduces four fresh faces to his XI. Two changes are forced, with the injured Andrich and Koussounou being replaced by Demirbay and Bakker respectively. Azmoun comes in for Hlozek, but the big surprise is Wirtz dropping to the bench, with Adli taking his place.

Watch: Leverkusen 2-0 Stuttgart

Moussa Diaby and Jonathan Tah were on the scoresheet when these sides last met in November.

Head-to-head

This match-up has been favourable to Leverkusen in recent years. They are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions versus Stuttgart, winning on seven occasions during that time, with Stuttgart's last victory coming in 2018 when they triumphed 1-0 at the BayArena. Remarkably, you have to go back to 2010 for Die Schwaben's previous win on home soil, with Brazilian Cacau bagging a brace as his side prevailed 2-1.

Sttugart team news

There are a couple of problems for Sebastian Hoeneß to weigh up. Important central defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is out of the clash with a shin problem while Dan-Axel Zagadou had a knee problem during the week, but should be available.

Leverkusen team news

He has done a fantastic job, but there may not be too many envious of Xabi Alonso this weekend. Some tricky selection decisions are in store for the coach - not only to weigh up the need for freshness ahead of the crunch second leg against Roma with Leverkusen's push for a European qualifying spot in the Bundesliga. Odilon Kossounou is definitely out this weekend and Robert Andrich a serious doubt after injuries sustained in Rome, while Jeremie Frimpong was carrying a knock and may therefore be rested.

Derby defeat

An Amine Adli goal was sandwiched by two Davie Selke strikes as Leverkusen lost for the first time in 15 competitive matches last Friday. After their defeat in Rome, they will be keen to return to winning ways.

Plenty of work for Die Werkeslf

Leverkusen's surge in the second half of the season has taken them into the UEFA Europa League semi-finals - with a one-goal first-leg deficit to Roma to overturn next Thursday. They are up to sixth in the Bundesliga too and eager to tie down a European qualifying spot for next season.

Stuttgart locked in survival battle

There will be an eager sense of expectation in Stuttgart for this one. They go into Matchday 32 in 16th, in a relegation play-off spot. Four matches unbeaten had given them great hope until a 2-1 loss to Hertha Berlin plunged them back in danger. A win against Bayer Leverkusen would be celebrated wildly!
