Game over

That's a big, big result for both sides. Freiburg are up to provisional fourth spot after this last gasp victory. Hoffenheim - who had Kabak needlessly sent off late in the game - are bottom of the Bundesliga standings.

Flekken nerves

Flekken is a lucky boy. The goalkeeper tries to play a little touch-and-control that ends up going badly. The Freiburg custodian recovers to wallop clear.

So close Hoffenheim !

It's all hands to the pump for Hoffenheim, who have Baumann scurrying around in the opposition box! The ball pops over the top and suddenly substitute Fisnik Asllani is there! He must score. But no! Asllani took his eye off it at the last second and the chance goes awry. Incredible moment.

Freiburg at the death !

The hosts remain patient, building slowly. Weißhaupt centres from the left and Doan slides in front of two Hoffenheim defenders before angling into the corner. Amazing.

TSG changes

Hoffenheim's goalscorer Stiller makes way, as does Dabbur. Tohumcu and Bicakcic are on as the ten men look to leave the Black Forest with a point.

Kabak ordered off

Unforgivable from Kabak, who throws the ball away when he'd already been on a yellow. Prior to that, Angelino's ball into the middle caused all sorts of problems for Freiburg, who struggled before eventually clearing.

All to play for

With a quarter of an hour to go, this game is anyone's. Hoffenheim are level thanks to the first away goal of the Materazzo era but will it be the Sinsheimers who go on to win this or can Freiburg edge in front?

TSG claim

Höfler and Akpoguma go for the ball with feet raised. This is just inside the Freiburg area. Akpoguma goes down and the Sinsheimers want a penalty. A quick VAR check reveals there's nothing doing and we play on.

Visitors on terms!

Hoffenheim are level! Bebou flicks the ball through to Dabbur in the centre. He taps to Stiller who shoots low towards the near post, completely wrong-footing Flekken. The visitors celebrate that one for all its worth!

Freiburg still lead with that Maximilian Eggestein goal early doors. It was the 26-year-old's first goal this the season and ended a run of 40 games without scoring for the midfielder. He last netted on December 5, 2021 against Gladbach.

That slow build-up play worked out perfectly Freiburg. Grifo's cross from the left loops into the mixer and Baumann comes to punch. Unfortumately for the keeper, he's fisted it straight onto the left peg of Eggestein, who belts one into the back of the net.

Both sides are making their way onto the pitch! So much at stake here today with Freiburg hoping to strengthen their top four push and Hoffenheim eager to get off the bottom of the standings, where they find themselves following yesterday's results.

The atmosphere is steadily building at the wonderful Europa-Park Stadion. We're currently being treated to the club anthem, the fans holding their scarves high in the air. We await the teams.

Freiburg team news

Christian Streich opts for three changes to his starting XI today. From the Juventus game, out go Lienhart, Sidillia and Sallai (the latter pair are on the bench). Doan and Gregoritsch are in, as is Gulde, who is making only his third start this season.

TSG team news

Pellegrino Matarazzo has swept through his team like a tidal wave, the recently appointed TSG tactician making as many as six changes to his starting line-up compared to the side that began against Mainz. It's the most changes the Sinsheimers have adopted this term. The likes of Delaney, Kramaric and Angelino have all been benched. Brooks, Becker, Skov, Stiller, Bebou and Dabbur are in from the get-go.

Early team news

For the hosts, eight-goal striker Michael Gregoritsch missed the goalless draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach through illness, but should be fit to start this south-west derby. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh is the only long-term absentee. When it comes to the visitors, joint-top scorer Christoph Baumgartner is suspended and Kasper Dolberg misses out after suffering a concussion in training so Munas Dabbur, on five goals for the campaign, will likely start in attack.

Christian Streich: "Minds back on the Bundesliga"

Following their European efforts against Juventus in midweek, Freiburg boss Christian Streich knows his side need to dig deep in order to deliver victory today. "We need to summon all our strength and get our minds to a place where we can deliver a focused and high-energy game on Sunday," said Streich in the build-up to today's game. "If we manage to score a goal more than Hoffenheim, that would be a great performance from us after what was a very tiring game in Turin."

Pellegrino Matarazzo: "Time for action"

With Hoffenheim starting the day bottom, head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo has said it's now time for his side "to deliver". He told media this week: ''It's up to us to pick up points. We have our destiny in our own hands. Our goal now against Freiburg is to deliver a performance which will put us in a position to pick up three points. It's about performing out on the pitch... Now we have to follow up with actions.''

Opposite ends of the spectrum

Freiburg and Hoffenheim share the same regional roots in Baden-Württemberg, but they could not be further apart in the current Bundesliga standings. 'Die Breisgauer' are fifth in the table, outside the top four on goal difference. 'Die Kraichgauer', on the other hand, currently occupy the relegation play-off spot.
