Full-time: Hertha Berlin 0-2 Paderborn

Paderborn deservedly claimed the three points against Hertha in this one. Bilbija's brace of goals, one from open-play and the other from the spot was the highlight of the game. Meanwhile, it is yet another blanker at home for the Berliners who looked toothless for the majority of the affair.

Marino fails twice!

Bilbija plays his teammate free again, who shoots from 15 metres - and is denied by Ernst. The rebound falls back to Marino, but the striker blasts it centrally straight at Ernst again. That should have been the final nail in the coffin.
87'

Content Michel

Paderborn's experienced striker goes for a deep pass towards the corner flag, instead of even looking at the open path to goal, he looks content with the 2-0 lead at the minute.
87'

Sessa is booked

The defensive midfielder stops a Paderborn counter-attack by grabbing Marino and is shown a yellow for it.
84'

Berliners still pushing

Hertha want to find a solution to reduce the deficit, but they have no answers for Paderborn's solid defensive work at the back.
79'

Double substitution for SCP

Paderborn also make a double change. Defensive midfielder Castaneda and striker Tigges have run their race - Marino and Michel replace them.
78'

Schuler comes on

Striker for striker, as expected, Kownacki cannot continue. After the collision, he got up and then fell back to the ground without any further contact.
76'

Match paused

Both players are down. Kownacki seems to have had it worse. He collided with his head against Seimen's shoulder.
75'

The Hertha midfielder delivers a cross with pace towards the goal into the centre, where Seimen catches the ball in the air and collides with Kownacki.
74'

Obermair!

The left winger plays it centrally to Bätzner, who in turn sends him through - Obermair sprints to the edge of the six-yard box and shoots from a very tight angle, but Ernst saves.
71'

Strongest Paderborn player

Bilbija is fully engaged in all phases of the match. With the ball, he has impressed primarily with his activity in the penalty area, while without the ball he has shown fighting spirit and consequently won the most duels as well so far.

Reese looking for Grönning

The captain crosses into the centre, but just before the new striker can nod it in, a Paderborn defender is there and clears it for a corner. The corner slips through to the goal line on the other side - because Grönning was on the ball again in the centre, this time it's a goal kick.

49'

Uneven restart

After the early foul by Eitschberger, Leistner caught Klaas on the foot during a fair clearance. The Paderborn midfielder needs treatment - so very little actual play has occurred in the first three minutes of this half.

Paderborn go into the break with a deserved lead. Hertha enjoyed a dominant spell from the 15th to the 30th minute, but apart from a headed chance by Kownacki, they have rarely threatened. The 07ers regained control of the match and scored through Bilbija. Both teams have room for improvement in the second half.

43'

Hertha looking to strike back

On the other side, the Paderborn captain also tests his luck, but his low effort from distance doesn't trouble Ernst. Signs of life from the visitors in attack.

Götze on the line against Kownacki!

A long throw-in from Reese is flicked on to Kownacki in the middle, who heads it towards the left of the goal against Seimens' direction of movement. The keeper is beaten - but Paderborn's captain manages to get his head in at the last moment on the goal line and clears the situation. That was close!
20'

Kownacki overcomplicates it

Ernst searches for Hertha's centre-forward with a long ball, who heads it on to Winkler. The right winger controls it, makes a feint and lays it off to Kownacki in the middle. There, the number nine tries to get past the last defender instead of shooting directly, and gets tackled.
18'

First dangerous attack

The Berliners launch a quick attack down the right wing, Winkler drives the ball into Paderborn's penalty area, tries to cut inside and shoot, but is immediately blocked. Reese chases down the rebound on the left, crosses into the middle - but too far in front of the goal. Seimen grabs the ball out of the air.
15'

Castaneda impedes Cuisance

Dárdai plays a sharp but imprecise ball into the centre, which is intercepted by Castaneda - however, Paderborn's number six miscontrols, allowing Cuisance to sprint in between and win the ball back. In attempting to win it back again, Castaneda receives a yellow card for a somewhat reckless challenge.
15'

Calmer game

After some sloppy phases of play initially from Hertha, the Berliners are now focusing on avoiding risks and clearing the ball when under pressure. This is forcing Paderborn to play out from the back, which they aren't quite good with just yet. Hertha's defensive organisation, meanwhile, is just as solid as the visitor's.
12'

All shots from Paderborn

Despite Hertha being slightly more active in possession so far, the visitors are the ones who have had all the chances, growing in their threat with each passing counter-attack.

Klaas!

Another error in Hertha's build-up play, this time Klaas goes for a shot from outside the box - Leistner throws himself in front of the ball and deflects it out for a corner. Paderborn play the corner short with little success.
9'

Hertha stepping on the gas

Zeefuik now increases the pace and sends Kownacki behind the defensive line on the left. The striker runs onto the ball but then falls while shielding it against Götze - no foul, but fair challenge, according to the referee. The ball goes out for a goal kick.
7'

Obermair!

For Paderborn's first real chance, Bilbija gets in deep on the right, crosses far to Obermair, who cuts inside, shoots - and is stopped by Eichhorn. After the rebound, there's a foot race between Gechter and Obermair, but the Paderborn player wins it and secures the ball again.
6'

A whole lot of Hertha

The hosts have been the dominant side so far. Aside from the kick-off, Paderborn are yet to build up an attack of their own. The Berliners are trying to create structured moves from the back, but are still making too many mistakes. Leistner has to make up for his own sloppy pass with a good tackle.

Bilbija!

Hertha have started quietly, a loss of possession by Jensen leads to a quick counter-attack opportunity for Paderborn - Bilbija runs into the penalty area from the right half-spaces and shoots low towards the far corner - narrowly wide.
1'

Hertha sticks with the back four

Gechter comes into the match as a right-back, true to position. With the natural centre-back on the flank, this means: Stefan Leitl remains faithful to the 4-2-3-1 formation from last week.

Götze has won the coin toss and chosen to take the kick-off. Paderborn are getting us underway at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

Milestone for Kownacki

Dawid Kownacki is playing his 100th match in Bundesliga 2 (his fifth for Hertha, 95 for Düsseldorf). So far, he has scored an impressive 35 goals in 99 matches, including his first for the Berliners most recently.

Two new faces at Paderborn

Tjark Scheller has served his suspension (red card on matchday three against Düsseldorf) and makes his comeback at just the right time, with Calvin Brackelmann unavailable for this one. Sebastian Klaas brought a lot of energy as a substitute against Bochum last time out and is now starting in the league for the first time since April and replaces Nick Bätzner. He was also in the starting eleven in the first round of the DFB-Cup against Viktoria Köln.
camera-photo

Hertha with a system change?

After the 3-0 gala performance in Hannover, the exciting question was whether and how Stefan Leitl would incorporate the recently suspended Linus Gechter, who had received a second yellow card. The answer: Gechter plays, which means Julian Eitschberger must take a place on the bench, and at least on paper, it looks like a return to a back three.

Ralf Kettemann on facing Hertha

"Berlin have enormous individual quality. We cannot afford to lose possession and must allow the opponent little space."

Stefan Leitl on facing Paderborn

"Paderborn are a really good team and will challenge us at a similar level to Hannover. The team are very flexible, have good personnel as well as clear principles. They always look to play forward, press high but can occasionally sit deeper when the situation requires. On Saturday, we need to be at our best throughout the match to win."
