Eighteen shots from Cologne today
More than in any other match in the second half of the season.

Off the post!
Lemperle leaves Maglica for dead with a quick stepover and smashes the ball against the right post from ten metres out.

Uth again!
Rondić powers through strongly on the right, he finds Lemperle in the penalty area, who simply lays it off to Uth. Uth nutmegs his opponent and then fails to beat Schuhen once more!
90'
Schuhen prevents!
Lemperle breaks through on the left. Schuhen rushes out of his goal and saves the first shot from close range. However, the ball lands at Uth's feet, but the Lilies' keeper is quickly back on his feet and just manages to get a hand to the second shot!
89'
Too imprecise
Lemperle lays it off for Uth in front of goal. However, the pass is a bit too hard, so Uth can't shoot directly and gets caught up in the Lilies' defence.
87'
Must do better
Brilliant interplay between Waldschmidt and Finkgräfe on the left flank. After a one-two, Waldschmidt takes a shot from a left position about 15 metres out, but misses the target clearly with his weaker right foot.
85'
Side netting!
Lidberg dribbles along the left byline and opts for a direct shot. A pass would probably have been the better decision.
84'
One-sided
Darmstadt's last shot on goal was in the 48th minute – since then, Cologne have had nine attempts.
80'
Cologne back in front!
Waldschmidt outfoxes Schuhen, sending the goalkeeper to the left and slotting low into the right to regain the lead! A potentially-crucial goal in a tight promotion race!

Big chance!
Lemperle breaks down the left. He lifts his head and carefully assesses the situation in the penalty area. He delivers the ball with perfect timing, low into the six-yard box, where Rondić comes rushing in, only to narrowly miss the ball from close range.
69'
Gutted!
Gazibegović cannot continue after Hornby's challenge. Lemperle comes on for him.

Blocked!
After some confusion in the Lilies' penalty area, Martel shoots on the turn. Lidberg blocks the shot for a corner. Köln want a penalty for handball, but Lidberg clearly made contact with his hip.

Marseiler down again
Marseiler had returned to the pitch after receiving treatment, but is now sitting on the ground again, holding his ribs. Consequently, he is now being substituted. Boëtius comes on for him.
59'
Hornby suspended
Hornby receives his fifth yellow card of the season, this time for dissent, he will miss the match against Ulm.
59'
Nothing doing
The Cologne players demand a penalty after a collision between Vukotić and Ljubicic, but there was far too little to warrant one.
58'
Brief interruption
Marseiler needs treatment on the pitch after a collision with Martel. Let's see if he can continue.

Cologne on fire!
The triple substitution at half-time has obviously brought new life to Cologne's attack. Huseinbašić shoots from a central position about 20 metres out, but Schuhen reflexively throws his arms up and manages to tip the ball over the crossbar!
52'
Spectacular!
Gazibegović sets up Rondić with a beautiful pass on the right flank. The path to goal is blocked, so he turns away and finds Waldschmidt on the other side of the penalty area. Waldschmidt hit it first-time and narrowly misses the goal.
51'
Vukotić clears
Cologne attack again through the impressive Finkgräfe. This time he tries a low cross, but Vukotić gets there ahead of Rondić.
49'
Best attack from the visitors!
Lidberg takes hold of the ball in midfield and lays it off to Hornby, who brings Marseiler into play. The latter immediately passes back to the striker. Hornby shoots from just under 10 metres out, but Schwäbe prevents with a strong save.
48'
Too high
Ljubicic lays it off to Finkgräfe with his first touch, but his cross sails over the penalty area.
46'
We're back underway!
The ball is rolling again. While Darmstadt continue unchanged, Cologne have made three substitutions at half-time. Ljubicic, Huseinbašić and Rondić are on the field.

Cross central
The visitors attack down the left flank. Bueno joins in and finds Lidberg in the penalty area. The striker manages to control the ball with his back to goal and turns on his axis. However, the shot lacks power and there were simply too many Cologne legs in the way. Schwäbe gathers.
17'
No problem for Schuhen
The hosts counter into space. However, it takes a while for the ball to reach Thielmann. The striker shoots from about 12 metres out, but the angle is too tight. Schuhen catches the shot safely.
16'
Again down the right
Once again, Marseiler gets past Finkgräfe on the wing, but this time Heintz heads the cross away from danger.
12'
Balanced start
Darmstadt are not showing any signs of being affected by the fatal error and early deficit. Both teams are giving it some, although most of the action is still taking place in the middle of the pitch.
9'
No clean sheet again
The trend continues: Darmstadt remains the only team in the Bundesliga 2 that haven't kept a clean sheet away from home this season
7'
First advance
Darmstadt attack down the right side. Marseiler delivers a low ball towards the six-yard box, Lidberg rushes in from behind but can't get the ball on target.

1'
Lightning start!
Cologne take the lead with their very first attack of the match! López is pressed high up the pitch during build-up play. He wants to pass the ball back to Schuhen, but plays it straight to Thielmann's feet. The striker gratefully accepts the gift and slots it home for the lead. What a fatal error!

Kick-off!

A win is needed for second place
Paderborn overtook Cologne today with a spectacular 5-3 victory against Kaiserslautern. Due to their inferior goal difference, Cologne must win to reclaim second place. Incidentally, Paderborn is Cologne's next away destination after the international break.
Two changes for Cologne
For the Billy Goats, there are two changes following the victory in Ulm: Martel and Heintz are fit again, so they replace Schmied (who started the last seven matches) and Huseinbašić.
Marseiler for Boëtius
Following the 3-0 victory over Karlsruhe, Florian Kohfeldt makes one change for Darmstadt: Boëtius gets a breather after starting in the last two matches, with Luca Marseiler taking his place. Marseiler played last season in Cologne, but on the other side of the Rhine for Viktoria, where he recorded an impressive 13 goals and nine assists in the third division.
Darmstadt starting line-up
Schuhen - López, Riedel, Vukotić, Bueno - Corredor, Papela, Müller, Marseiler - Lidberg, Hornby
Cologne starting line-up
Schwäbe - Gazibegović, Hübers, Heintz, Finkgräfe - Olesen, Martel - Thielmann, Waldschmidt, Kainz - Tigges

VBL: The Club Championship final is approaching!
Florian Kohfeldt's view on Cologne
"In Cologne, we want to have possession of the ball and develop offensive solutions. For this, we need courage and conviction as well as the right risk assessment. I expect us to be physically ready to leave everything, and I mean absolutely everything, on the pitch. We will certainly need to solve things defensively through intensity as well. If we have the desire for that – and I can sense this desire – it could be a fantastic evening."
Gerhard Struber's view on Darmstadt
"This is an opponent who has a lot of depth and players in the forward line who can be dangerous. They follow a direct approach and bring a lot of quality. It will be a real challenge, but we want to get closer to our goals, and in this case, that means a win at the weekend."

Last home win in 2016
Darmstadt have won their last two away matches in Cologne. The Billy Goats celebrated their last three victories against the Lilies all away from home, with their last home win against Darmstadt coming nine years ago (2-0 in August 2016 in the Bundesliga, goals from Marcel Risse and Anthony Modeste).
Bogey team no more
In their first eleven competitive matches against Cologne, the Lilies remained winless and suffered nine defeats, but they have won three of the last four encounters.
