Full-time: Düsseldorf 2-1 Hertha Berlin
Hertha were clearly the better team in the first half and led deservedly. The substitution of Pejčinović then changed the game, and within three minutes, Düsseldorf turned the match around. The visitors had to regroup but still had their chances. A point would have been deserved, but with a bit of luck, the hosts take all three points.

Off the post!
Kenny chases down a long ball on the right and delivers a powerful cross to the far post, where Schuler wins the aerial battle and heads forcefully towards goal. Kastenmeier is beaten, but the ball only rattles the left post.

Big chance for Maza
Cuisance whips in a cross from the right flank to the far post, where Maza has a free header from six metres out, but places it straight at Kastenmeier. The skilful technician is not exactly a specialist in heading.

Jóhannesson impressing
The Icelander is extremely confident on the ball and has been heavily involved. He manages to escape from most pressure situations and has won 80 percent of his offensive duels so far.

Not far off
Heyer wins the ball with a strong tackle in Hertha's half and passes to Jóhannesson on the left side, who whips the ball sharply towards the far post. Pejčinović rushes in but arrives half a metre too late.

Hertha seeking a response
The first attacking move from the visitors after Düsseldorf's double strike. Reese gets a shot off from the left side of the penalty area and puts it just over the crossbar.

The perfect super sub
It's hard to imagine a better way to come into the game than Pejčinović. The super sub took all three of Düsseldorf's shots on goal in the second half, which is more attempts than all of his teammates combined.

Dynamic duo
Brace for Pejčinović - and also an assist double for Kownacki, who provides two assists in a single match for the first time in Bundesliga 2.

It's a quick-fire double!
Unbelievable! Lunddal heads a long diagonal ball from the right side of the penalty area into the middle towards Kownacki, who in turn heads it on to Pejčinović on the left. With his first touch, Pejčinović brilliantly slots it into the left corner with his left foot.

GOAL! There's the equaliser!
On one side, Reese misses a cross from the right by just a toe's length, then Kastenmeier quickly restarts play. Pejčinović initiates the goal with a one-two with Jóhannesson and then plays Kownacki in on the right side of the penalty area, who lays it back into Pejčinović's path with his first touch. Pejčinović keeps his cool in front of Gersbeck and slots it into the bottom-left corner.

The kit manager is called into action
Scherhant's right boot is damaged with a hole on the instep. However, the Hertha bench is resourceful and solves the problem with plenty of tape.
53'
Nearly the equaliser!
Appelkamp delivers a free-kick from the right half-space with curl into the penalty area. Dárdai attempts to clear and slides for the ball, but lobs it over his own keeper, who can only watch helplessly - and Gersbeck is beaten. The ball bounces off the crossbar and out for a goal kick.
50'
Another chance for Hertha!
Scherhant cleverly lays it off to Cuisance, who has a shooting opportunity from the right side of the penalty area - but with his weaker right foot. The Hertha player therefore passes to Reese at the edge of the box, but also to his weaker foot. Reese shoots immediately with his left, but the ball sails well over the crossbar.
47'
Maza lets fly
The Hertha player strongly asserts himself on the left side of the penalty area and attempts a powerful shot towards the far corner.

Kownacki has a chance
Van Brederode delivers the ball from the left side to the penalty spot. It's a free header for Kownacki, but he puts it over the crossbar.

Düsseldorf's first attempt
After a free-kick by Jóhannesson, the ball falls to Lunddal's feet, who strikes it with the inside of his foot, but blasts the ball over the crossbar from 10 metres out.

Almost dangerous
Haag sends Niemiec through nicely on the right side of the attack. The Düsseldorf striker is already in the penalty area. Zeefuik makes a risky sliding tackle for the ball, but clears the situation fairly. With poorer timing, it could have quickly resulted in a penalty.

Double chance for Hertha!
The visitors are clearly dominating the game. Kenny finds Scherhant in the centre with a cross, who controls the ball and shoots on the turn from ten yards out. Oberdorf manages to block, but then the ball lands via Maza to Cuisance, who could shoot but instead lays it off to Reese, who fires from a tight angle. Kastenmeier clears with a good save using his feet.

The curse is broken
It's Reese's first goal of the season - he last scored in May 2024, on matchday 33 of the previous season in the 3-1 home victory against Kaiserslautern. It was also the first away goal of matchday 22 so far.

Cross doesn't connect
After a long throw-in from the left side, Düsseldorf fail to clear the ball from the danger zone, but Hertha also can't get a shot off as Siebert manages to clear Reese's cross.

How things stand
Düsseldorf could move to within one point of third place with a victory. For Hertha, after Braunschweig's win today, they are now only five points ahead of the relegation play-off spot - it's high time to end their poor run of form.
Match of Milestones
Fabian Reese is playing his 200th match in Bundesliga 2 today. Additionally, there are three smaller milestones: Jóhannesson, Scherhant and Kenny are each making their 50th appearance in Germany's second tier.
A look at the benches
Diego Demme is included in the squad for the capital city side for the first time in the second half of the season, while Danny Latza, who surprisingly made his comeback recently, is not with Düsseldorf today.
One change for the visitors
Former Düsseldorf player Karbownik (26 second-tier appearances for Fortuna in 2022/23) is the only new face in Hertha's starting XI, replacing Sessa.
The heart of the team is back
The two central midfielders Haag and Jóhannesson return after serving their yellow card suspensions, with Zimmermann and Appelkamp, who had been playing in their place, making way. Daniel Thioune makes no further changes.
Hertha Berlin starting XI
Gersbeck - Kenny, Gechter, Dárdai, Zeefuik - Klemens, Karbownik - Cuisance, Maza, Reese - Scherhant
Düsseldorf starting XI
Kastenmeier - Fridriksson, Oberdorf, Siebert, Heyer - Jóhannesson, Haag, Kwarteng - Niemiec, Kownacki, Brederode
Daniel Thioune on facing Hertha
"Hertha have the second-highest possession in the league behind Magdeburg. They have several individuals who bring a lot of quality to the pitch. We need to control them. Our aim is to make our stadium much harder to conquer this year. We want to dictate the match both with and without the ball. We respect the opponent, but we're far from being afraid."
Cristian Fiėl on facing Fortuna
"Düsseldorf is a team that has been significantly strengthened in the winter and, in my opinion, will be up there until the end. We especially need to defend well against them because the team covers an incredible amount of ground. Therefore, a lot of work awaits us."
Fortuna to wear black armbands
The hosts will play wearing black armbands in honour of Werner Buddenberg, and there will also be a minute's silence. The former board member of Düsseldorf passed away on 1 February at the age of 81.
Managers in focus
Daniel Thioune has won all three previous managerial encounters against Cristian Fiél. His Düsseldorf side won 2-0 in this season's reverse clash, while he led Fortuna to 3-1 and 5-0 wins against Nuremberg in 2023/24.
Waiting for a victory on the Rhine
Hertha's last win against Fortuna was in October 2019 (3-1 at home in the Bundesliga), while their last away win in Düsseldorf came in August 2010 under Markus Babbel (2-1 in Bundesliga 2).
Good record
Düsseldorf have lost only one of their last nine competitive matches against the Berliners (five wins, three draws), including a memorable victory over Hertha in the relegation play-off in May 2012.
