Head-to-head record

These two nations have only met on six occasions with Argentina winning the most recent, a 1-0 victory - courtesy of Ángel Di María's strike - in the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup on their way to reaching the final. Switzerland are yet to taste victory against their opponents, but have drawn twice in addition to Argentina's four victories.

How they got here: Argentina

Topping Group J with comfortable victories over Algeria, Austria and Jordan, Argentina have been tested in both of their knockout games so far. Needing extra time to beat Cabo Verde 3-2 in the round of 32, Lionel Messi struck his eighth of the tournament as the reigning champions fought back from 2-0 down to beat Egypt 3-2 in stoppage time to secure their quarter-final berth.
