It's an attack-minded line-up from head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Star man Christian Pulišić begins in midfield and is joined by Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Malik Tillman, who is preferred in the starting XI to Gio Reyna. Elsewhere, former Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim defender Chris Richards has been passed fit to start; the centre-back has been out of action for the past month or so with an injury.

The festivities have already begun in LA as a group of drummers begin the pre-game entertainment. They're followed by a number of acts, including Thai rapper Lisa (pictured), Future and Tyla.

Gladbach's Joe Scally (c.) and his USMNT colleagues arrived at the stadium a short while ago. Line-ups are due to drop in around 25 minutes.

There's still a couple of hours to go until kick-off but the South Americans are already in the stadium and getting a feel for the pitch.

Around 70,000 fans will be packed into the sold-out Los Angeles Stadium.

Paraguay may not have any Bundesliga players in their current squad, but all-time record goalscorer Roque Santa Cruz spent eight years at Bayern Munich, winning five Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League to go alongside 51 goals in 238 games. Nelson Valdez, who also features in Paraguay's all-time top 10 goalscorers, played for both Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund, winning the Meisterschale and the DFB Cup with the former in 2003/04.

How they got here: Paraguay

Paraguay performed well in South American qualifying, finishing sixth with 28 points from their 18 games - as many as Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay. This is their ninth appearance at the finals, and their first since 2010.

As one of the three host nations, the USA did not have to qualify for this World Cup. Their last competitive game was the 2025 Gold Cup final, which they lost to rivals Mexico. They have since played a number of friendlies against big-name outfits, including Germany, Portugal and Belgium.
