Full-time: France 3-1 Senegal

What a second half of football! Mbappé, Olise and Co were unplayable at times in the second half. After struggling in the first half, France showed just how good they can be.

Somehow it stays out

Tchouameni deflects Mbaye's cross towards his own goal, and Maignan just about recovers in time to keep the ball out.

Stunning

Olise feeds Mbappé, and he unleashes a stunning drive from 30 yards out that finds the back of the net. That goal makes Mbappé France's all-time top scorer. He is also now just two goals off Miroslav Klose's World Cup record.

So close

No penalty

Mbappé is adjudged to have initiated contact with Mané, and the referee sticks with his original decision: no penalty.

Half-time: France 0-0 Senegal

It remains level at the break, but the underdogs, Senegal, could easily be ahead. Both Jackson and Ismaila Sarr have come close to opening the scoring. That might be something they regret after the break if France play to their potential.

No set-piece joy

France have had a couple of chances to put the ball in the box in the last few minutes, but have failed to make anything of those opportunities. The latest delivery ends up in the gloves of Edouard Mendy.

The closest we've come to a goal

Jackson briefly got the better of his Bayern teammate Upamecano, and it nearly led to the opener as Jackson struck the post. The Senegal striker scored eight Bundesliga goals last season.
40'

Mané's shot saved

Ismaila Sarr does brilliantly to beat a couple of players before being tripped by Saliba. The ball then rolls to Mané, who hits a rather tame shot from range straight at Maignan.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
It has been a pretty frantic game so far, but we've not seen many great opportunities.

Senegal's Nicolas Jackson and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye were both on loan in Munich in the past season, meaning we could have quite the Bayern reunion in the Big Apple!

Welcome!

Thanks for joining us for build-up and live coverage of this Group I encounter between France and Senegal at the New York/New Jersey Stadium on Tuesday 16 June (kick-off: 8pm CEST).
